Someone was asking about Canterbury University with the address in the UK. When I typed the address in I got: Adoption & Fostering Information Line 193, Market Street Hyde Cheshire. SK14 1HF. This has the same post code as this University. All I know is that it is not the same as Canterbury University in Kent. But someone from another group, I think Google discussion (I can't remember it was late when I searched) told me that they received this degree and it is perfectly legal, so I don't know.
As far as I am aware there is no University of Canterbury in the UK. There is however: University of Kent - which used to be University of Kent at Canterbury - contact details are: Recruit and Admissions or International Office University Of Kent Registry Canterbury Kent CT2 7NZ United Kingdom Tel: +44 (0) 1227 764000 Fax: +44 (0) 1227 823247 Web :www.ukc.ac.uk and Canterbury Christ Church University College contact details are: Canterbury Christ Church University College North Holmes Road Canterbury Kent CT1 1QU United Kingdom Tel: +44 (0) 122 745 8459 Fax: +44 (0) 122 778 1558 Web :www.cant.ac.uk Could I suggest that students wanting to approach British Universities use the very good British Council website www.educationuk.org - there is a list of all UK Higher Education Institutions and their contact details (go to the search by institution function). There is also a search engine that will cover most UK originated Distance/Online courses - change the type of attendance to Distance/Online. Yours, Brendan
George Brown has identified Canterbury University as one of 3 "universities" associated with InstantDegrees.com: http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11525
The legal name is The University of Kent which was previously known as The University of Kent at Canterbury. According to their prospectus (which I have a copy) the registration office address is: Recruit and Admissions or International Office University Of Kent Registry Canterbury Kent CT2 7NZ United Kingdom To my knowledge there is no "Canterbury University".
The closest thing I was able to find out about this degee mill is this "Alumni Webpage http://www.canterbury-alumni.com/ I found a thread in an obvious diploma mill discussion board: http://townchat.com/y2k/bbs/pers-com/msg/164.html Also, the only known self proffesed "proffeser" is a Daniel Odin: http://danielodin.da.ru/ I've also used different search engines and found the following e-mail address attributed to the degree mill: [email protected] Rubro Cursos A simple whois query on the canterbury-alumni domain shows the following: Registrant: Canterbury University Memorabilia Jose E Rodo 410 Juan Lacaze 70001 Uruguay Registered through: GoDaddy.com Domain Name: CANTERBURY-ALUMNI.COM Created on: 29-May-03 Expires on: 29-May-13 Last Updated on: 15-Jul-03 Administrative Contact: Odin, Daniel [email protected] Canterbury University Memorabilia Jose E Rodo 410 Juan Lacaze 70001 Uruguay 05864256 Fax -- Technical Contact: Odin, Daniel [email protected] Canterbury University Memorabilia Jose E Rodo 410 Juan Lacaze 70001 Uruguay 05864256 Fax -- Domain servers in listed order: PARK7.SECURESERVER.NET PARK8.SECURESERVER.NET - Hope this settles the fact that Canterbury Univeristy is a degree mill.
The address is a mailing box service which provides facilities for various businesses including a scam relating to data protection legislation in the UK. Check http://www.metro-design-dev.com/files/plditallo.doc for someone with degrees therefrom.
