I noticed this address has somehow been transferred from the old LaSalle University in Louisiana to LaCrosse University in spite of the following Educause rule. (There is no way LaCrosse could qualify for the .edu address under the current rules.) "Q. When I change or release a name, can I transfer the old name to another institution? A. No. You do not "own" the name, and therefore you may not give, sell, or in any other way transfer it to another institution. When you release a name, it becomes available for all institutions to select on a first-come-first-served basis."
The .edu domain is reserved for colleges, universities and training academies. It is very difficult for a .com corporation like Lacrosse U. to acquire an education domain (.edu). I find it interesting that Lacrosse is now known as distance.edu. Somehow the proprietors of Lacrosse managed to secure this domain through a "switch and take" with LaSalle University. I doubt this move will make them more popular. They are accredited by WAUC which makes them a "not so wonderful school".
The fact the ".edu" is difficult to obtain will give them additional credibility in the eyes of many prospective students.
James (Thomas) Kirk (McPherson), who went to prison for fraud for his La Salle University, is seriously involved with Lacrosse. It is even possible that Lacrosse technically a new name for LaSalle. If a school with an .edu changes its name, presumably it can keep its .edu.
