On March 28, 2003 the First Circuit Court of the State of Hawaii entered separate default judgments against Southwest International University of Nevada (a Hawaii corporation) and Trinity College of Science & Management of Southwest International University (also a Hawaii corp).

Under the terms of the judgment, SWIU of NV and Trinity College are enjoined from operating any degree granting institution in, from or under the color of Hawaii law. The judgment also directs the state's Business Registration Division to terminate their corporate existences.

Each corp was also ordered to offer full restitution to any students or graduates who enrolled after July 1, 1999 and to pay a civil penalty of $38,000 and 89,000 respectively.

Note: the two institutions (Trinity, SWIU of NV) in conjunction with Southern California Polytechnic University are spinoffs created by former employees of the original Southwest International University, Mao Jung Lee, Harold Thompson and James King (who are now believed to reside in Taiwan or China).

I like the "terminate their corporate existences" best. Hawaii, keep up the good work. :)

At this rate Hawaii is going to be one of the best states in the union for degree mills. Oops that doesn't sound right. Hawaii will be one of the worst states in the union for degree mills. Oops that doesn't sound right either. ;) I think you know what I mean.
