I need to finish my BA asap to apply to graduate school (to meet state licensure req. to teach here in VA). Do grad schools examine transcripts carefully? I had planned to take GRE/Lit to fulfill upper credits, but had read that some grad schools won't accept it....?!?! prefer actual classes/courses.

Anyone travelled this road b4 that can share their experiences?
    Thank you!!

I am not sure about VA but in NC my wife got her degree from COSC and had no problem becoming a teacher. She did a lateral entry and is working on her additional coursework through East Carolina University. She had no problem becoming accepted their either.

She did not take the GRE for additional credits (she already had 126) from previous schools but I would think that any school would accept the degree from COSC regardless of how you received your credits.

Also, my wife is not in Grad. School but again, Grad. Schools should not limit you on how you received credit as long as you have a degree. What I would do is contact all the school in VA that you plan to apply to, speak with the person at the top, (Dean of the School of Education or the person who heads up Teacher Licensure) and then ask them your question. Also if the school graduate guide states that they accept an accredited degree with no other stipulations, then they should accept all accredited degrees regardless of how you received credit. Schools granting credit for the GRE is just another form of Clep or Dantes. You are receiving credit for information you already know.

I would also contact the VA Department of Education and talk with them as well.

Thanks! I had actually planned to farm out my resume in NC, but thought I should wait till I had license....maybe not!

Did your wife choose COSC for a particular reason? Just wondering if one is different or better than another. Thanks!

I am not a teacher but I choose COSC over Excelsior and TESC because they were just easier to work with. They were more accepting of my credits (not age limit) and they were more flexible with regard to creating my degree plan. I earned a BS in Individualized Studies - Technology & Business.

I was accepted by several schools for a graduate program without question and finally selected one of them.

    Best of luck.

My wife chose COSC because they allowed a D to transfer and she had 3. That is nothing to be proud of but that is 9 credits that they allowed that no other University would and I spent $2000 on those 9 credits so I am glad they did not go to waste.

However she has a 3.5 in East Carolina University School of Education and that is what is most important. In NC you can choose to start your "lateral entry" licensure without being employed with a school. If you want more information regarding polices in NC let me know and give me your email. I will be more then happy to give you all the advise I can. The department of public instruction can be tricky so it is always good to talk to people who have "been there, done that."
