Has anybody heard of Southern Eastern University from Arkansas and,if so, have any knowledge of its academic background?

Obviously a degree mill. Using Goggle they have no home web page but it does come up on this page:

    http://www.saslaw.org.uk/Southern%20Eastern%20University.htm

I also see some confusion with Nova South Eastern. Is it really possible/likely that a student does not know the name of the school they are attending?! I see a couple of graduates(?) mispell the name.

Is Goggle a "search engine mill," the fake version of Google? ;)

I think that this is another example of that peculiar European "everywhere and nowhere" strategy.

Southern Eastern Universaty (SEU) is a recognised American University. It is Chartered in Arkansas, USA, with approval from the Arkansas Secretary of State and authorised by the Arkansas District Court...

Also, under the Education Reform Act 1998, the degrees awarded by Southern Eastern University are recognised in the United Kingdom by the Privy Council and the Secretary of State Department.

Though originally registered and chartered in the USA, Southern Eastern University has its main base of operations in the United Kingdom.

SEU is also, therefore, registered in the UK pursuant to Schedule 21A of the Companies Act 1985. Company No: FC023251: Branch No: BR006097...

Note: To obtain a copy of SEU's Charter you can write to the Corporations Division of the State of Arkansas, USA, quoting the Corporation No. CP00106650.

Apparently this thing has a business license in Arkansas (the "charter"). That's not the same thing as approval to operate as a university, but since this thing isn't located in Arkansas, that's probably legal.

Then it registers as a foreign corporation in the UK and cites British legislation (the "Education Reform Act of 1998") stating that use of foreign degrees is legal in the UK.

So this thing dodges Arkansas education regulations because it operates out of the UK, and it thinks that it dodges British education regulations because it has an Arkansas business license.

So effectively, it is nowhere at all.

    Pretty neat.

Actually, many British degree mills do this, though until recently Ireland was the preferred locale for the foreign business license.

I wouldn't be surprised to learn that it is same Southern Eastern that I've included in Bears' Guide for years, run from his apartment in the Docklands area of East London by a man who claims to be a part of the Grimaldi family of Monaco, and who claims that when a major British paper did a sting operation, reporting that he had agreed to sell the undercover reporter 5,000 signed blank diplomas, they were just out to get him.
