I will be starting my dissertation at USQ and have heard it is almost impossible to finish - is this true? I am quite worried after reading some links. Any comments would be appreciated.
Which "links" did you read? Were they on this board, or elsewhere? I'd love to read them. Rich Douglas
Perhaps you misunderstood. I posted once that the program was going to change because many people had to leave the program at the research proposal level, the program asks you to drop out if your fail twice the research methodology and proposal unit. As a personal experience, I had to repeat the research methodology twice since my dissertation proposal was not at the level of expectation of my supervisor. The good news is that they have changed the passing grade from 55 to 50 for the dissertation proposal part. Thing that makes a big difference since I failed the first time with a 53. If you manage to pass this milestone, the rest is not as difficult since your research proposal is your contract with them. If you achieve your proposal you will be granted the DBA. It is important to notice that although for north american standards a 55 or 50 seems to be an easy thing to achieve, it is not for australian standards.
Any more responses - RValve - what does the proposal contain. I am starting the course in the spring and am intrigued and worried at the same time.
Basically a research problem, research methodology and a plan. The main issue is that the research problem has to justify a DBA, if it is a trivial problem it would be refused. I would recommend to start looking for interesting problems, also, I would recommend a research area where you feel very strong. My problem was that I wanted to do research in an area where I don't have too much theoretical background.
