Ok, i think I have found the program I am gonna do. I have an appointment with Murray State University this friday. They have a branch in Henderson which is about an hour away. They offer a bachelor of individual studies.

Anyway, here is the question - I was talking with my soon to be advisor and she was explaining portfolios to me. She had a foreign accent and i found myself unable to understand some of the things she was saying.

She was telling me that I could write a paper about what I do for my job - since I am a youth minister- and that would be used for my concentration. She said I would write a detailed paper about what exactly I do and a proffesor would look at it and give me credit for that. ***Of course I have a meeting with her Friday and I will be able to find out more*** She also said that I could also write research papers and the prof. would be able to give credit for that too. I KNOW I KNOW....i just need to wait and talk to my advisor Friday but I was wondering if any of you have heard of that before?

Thomas Edison State College and Charter Oak State College are two schools that offer portfolio evaluation. The ever amazing Steve Levicoff gained 92 credits toward a degree at TESC.

Portfolio evaluation is not common, in my limited experience, but it is nice to jump-start a program with a few credits.

The theory behing portfolio evaluation is that you document on the job learning and independently learned things, etc. that are equivalent. These are legitimate programs.

Degree mills operate by evaluating your learning to equal 120, 150, or 180 credits and because you are so smart you need complete no further coursework, just give your credit card number and the degree is in the mail.

Hi, I suggest you have an idea of the courses that you want to portfolio and the credits you hope to gain when you go to your appointment. I would look closely at the course options offered and get a copy of the text they use and go chapter by chapter to match your experience to credits. Good Luck. Hille

well, i have a little bit of knowledge about portfolio, or at least i thought i did. I thought you found classes that you thought you had enough knowledeg to document.

but, is there other kinds of portfolio. She made a statment like i could possibly write research paper or something like that to get credit - does that make sense?
