I spoke to an admission counselor at Kennedy-Western today and was asking why there is a statement on their website “ENROLLMENT NOT AVAILABLE TO CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS.” I was given some answer that they did not want to market in the state of California…something…they wanted to offer a PhD without residency and California would not allow it.

I told her that Touro University International is RA and offers a 100% online PhD program. She told me that she “doubts the legitimacy of the school” because she never heard of it. She told me to “be careful” and recommended that I enroll in KW ASAP because the rates are going up. I told her that TUI was RA and she said that she still doubts the legitimacy of the school.

After she tried to pressure me into making a commitment, we had some heated words about feeling like I was talking to a used car salesman and I hung up.

Any comments about her doubting the legitimacy of the school (TUI)? I think it was all pretty funny.

What else is there to say? The person obviously hoped sales tactics would prevail over information and logic.

The statement about being prevented from offering a 100% non-resident Ph.D. program in California is an obvious lie. California allows many schools to do this, not just Touro.

K-W is enjoined from offering its degrees to California residents.

I often wonder why Century is not also prevented from doing so, and why California permits Fredrick Taylor and PWU to operate from California under Hawaiian authority.

    Wow! Talk about Guerrilla marketing!

You are quite right to doubt K-W’s false attacks. At TUI’s commencement last August, the keynote speaker was Kerry Mazzoni, the Secretary for Education for the state of California. Prior to her appointment by Gov. Gray Davis in 2000, she was a longtime California State Assemblywoman, who was focused on education in California. Rest assured, TUI has no problems in California.

I don't have any doubts about TUI, I just can't believe how KW played the higher pressure sales game.

Kennedy Western is a degree mill with a very thin veneer of legitimacy. Its sales tactics are the same as most degree mills, the difference is that it requires 5-7 classes to graduate. Most degree mills don't bother teaching any classes. There's little doubt in my mind that the sales force at K-W is paid on commision and the salesperson is the one that also evaluates the applicant and sets the specific graduation requirement, i.e., 5, 6, or 7 classes.

After several seconds of tossing and turning...I decided against it.
If I want to throw my money away, I have several other things that would be of more value...like a pet rock!
