Prof. Klopper, my supervisor at the University of Zululand, asked me to post the following message. [email protected] ---------------------- I'm looking for another journalism doctoral student in the United States who would be willing to work on the metaphors in George Bush's speeches since 9/11. It's the sort of study that must be done by an American. Do you know of anyone that might be interested? Prof. Klopper [email protected] ------------------------- He welcomes contact by email. Roscoe
While Roscoe hasn't stated this explicitly, this offer would appear to fall into the category of "once in a lifetime." I mean, how many times does a DL doctoral program go out recruiting while waving the dissertation topic at the same time? Jack
My feelings exactly! Jack, You're right. I'm hoping someone will see the opportunity and take advantage of it. I checked with a number of my friends in journalism but they showed no interest. They simply do not have the ambition to do doc level research. Wonder why? I tried to sell them on the cost. Still no takers. I mentioned it's a two-year program and can be done from home. Still no interest. Maybe that means only a selected few share our addiction for DL learning and achievements. Thanks for the reply, Jack. Roscoe
Re: My feelings exactly! Yes, it would seem like you would end up with a truly dedicated and interested faculty supervisor. North
WOW! Makes me wish I was a journalism guy... and qualified to do doctoral work... I would jump on it in a heartbeat if I were... I can't believe that someone won't go for it, though clint
OMIGAWD! "Show me yer cards, stranger!" "We have our own style of justice down here, know what Ah mean?" "If you ain't with us, yer agin us!" Foreign policy at its finest. Alas! My journalism studies are 35-40 years in the deep past. And if one could combine the communication aspect with a psychological profile, what a treat!!!! Best of luck to whoever takes this golden opportunity. I'd shore like to read the result, Good Buddy!
Wonderful opportunity Hello, This might reach someone interested if posted on the TESC current and alumni website. I don't want to do this without an OK from the original poster. Hille [email protected]
Update Prof. Klopper of UNIZUL says the Bush metaphor study is still up for grabs. He also wrote: "Another Journalism issue that is bound to generate a lot of discussion and research is the role of the embedded media with their real time video phone reports during the war on Iraq. "It has created the situation where the public know of events before the generals and the politicians do. There also is the question whether the self-censorship that they employ, and the point of view that they convey will not in the long run have a negative impact on press freedom and media independence." Prof. Klopper can be reached at: [email protected] For what it's worth, I should note that while I am a student at UNIZUL, I am not being compensated for posting this note. Just wanted to share. Regards, Roscoe
