One more question and I go back to being a silent reader. :)

I did a search through the archives and don't find a discussion on Global University from Springfield, MO. Their accreditation is from DETC and they are Assemblies of God. Does anyone on the list have experience with their MA program who could offer an evaluation of it? I'm curious as to how DETC accreditation would be regarded next to the SAQA (?) listing of South Africa Theological Seminary - which would tend to carry more credibility among the elite experts in this group? :).

    Thanks!

The DETC accreditation is more meaningful than the SAQA listing.

But you may be able to fool people with the SAQA thing.

    ?????

What evidence do you have that SATS status through SAQA would be less meaningful than DETC accreditation. Is foreign accreditation (from South Africa) going to be less acceptable than DETC accreditation. I would think that in some cases folks would more readily accept a foreign degree (backed up with a foreign credential evaluation) than a DETC accredited degree.

I agree. This is why I wrote "But you may be able to fool people with the SAQA thing."

Is it distinguished? No. It is reputable (DETC accreditation and AG denominational sponsorship)? Sure. If you are affiliated with the Assemblies of God or another Pentecostal denomination, it may well be a good option. Some of the adjunct faculty are well-known scholars in that particular theological orbit.
Having said that, perhaps Southwestern University of the AG (which I believe is RA) may offer DL programs of greater utility, because RA is better-regarded than NA accreditation.

Janko brings up a good point. Some schools may well be acceptable if one is going to remain in a given ecclesiastical context, and if that program of study is approved by one's ecclesiastical/denominational body. Global may well serve those in a Pentecostal/Charismatic context--in many cases. Louisiana Baptist University (www.lbu.edu), for example, is approved by the Baptist Bible Fellowship International (www.bbfi.org) for the training of its missionaries. BBFI has several RA schools which it approves, but LBU is not RA/DETC/TRACS accredited. Yet, many ministers within BBFI have earned doctorates from LBU, and their degrees are recognized within BBFI circles.
