Indiana University BGS - Very CLEP/DANTES friendly

Some of you may have read my thread regarding the Illinois Board of Trustees BA program. I am a thirty year old software professional who has been working in my field for about 7 years now. Prior to that I worked in customer service/tech support for a couple years after I dropped out of college.

I never really racked up too many credits while I attended a brick and mortar school, and my grades were really poor. I spent way to much time at the fraternity house and at bars instead of at the library. I'm really a spectacular case of a good high school student bombing out once in college. (Top ten% of my class, National Merit Scholar, etc.)

That said, I'm interested in finishing a degree now, any degree now. I'm not sure that a specific major is necessary, given that I currently am employed in a technical field. I was an accounting major in college for what it's worth.

Anyway, I've been considering a number of programs: the various BOT BA colleges, the Big 3 assessment schools, and Indiana University.

Credit by examination is very important to me. I have strong domain knowledge in a variety of subjects, and I'm fairly sure with some studying that I can complete around 70-75 semester hours strictly through CLEP & DANTES. The school I will pick will have policies that will help me leverage that existing knowledge.

According to an email I've received from an Indiana BGS advisor, Indiana University will:

1)Accept as many credits through exams as I will like, provided the distribution rules are met and that at least 30 semester hours are completed through them.

2)Accept all CLEP & DANTES subject exams and transcribe them as lower or upper division credit according to ACE recommendations.

3)Allow one to attempt credit by examination even AFTER one officially enrolls as a BGS student.

I must say this policy is very flexible and attractive for a person in my situation. My compliments to the folks at Indiana. I may shortly be a student there.
