I just got spammed today from what I believe to be a degree mill. They sent the usual exciting email, full scholarship, etc.

I checked out the site for this "Katharine Gibb School" at http://www.gibbsny.com/ and I couldn't find any faculty information, information about accreditation, etc.

This school has been around a very long time. They are more of a technical school, with most of their graduates in the secretarial field. They are well regarded by employers in that area.

In that case, I apologize for calling it a "degree mill". It just seemed like such a degree mill spam mail and the lack of information on the website indicated that to me.

    Thanks!

A dead giveaway was the name. Phony degree mills normally attempt to sound like prestigious universities. This example certainly did not.

So, if one came across a school named "Rich Douglas Institute for Liberal Democratic Studies," one could safely assume it was legitimate?

You know the gist, Rich. Just kidding! ;)

Not only would I not enroll there, I wouldn't even eat lunch in the cafeteria!

P.S. I'm not a "liberal." For example, I'm for fiscal restraint in the federal budget. Oops, I guess that is a liberal agenda, now that it's been abandoned by the conservatives! ;)

I figured that it was inevitable, so I Googled it. Turns out that it's named for his dad: Kim Il Sung University.

    http://www.kimsoft.com/korea/kji-kisu.htm

Here's a rather amazing address that the Dear Leader made at KISU. It's a very scary look into the strangest society on earth, the one place where George Orwell's vision of '1984' actually came true. Exerpts:

Today I toured the educational science exhibition commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the Kim Il-sung University. The university has had many successes in developing "juche's" social science theories...

I saw a performance by the Arts Performance Team and found that they were lacking in spirit. The performance I saw a few days ago by the Mobile Propaganda Unit of the People's Army was full of stamina and vitality. Recently, I toured many army units and met many soldiers whose artistic performances were full of combative spirit...

It appears that the Chief Secretary of the Kim Il-sung University Committee has not carried out the ideological education of the students adequately...

At this moment the ideological spirit of the army is excellent, the soldiers exhibit a healthy political awareness and are filled with revolutionary pride. I am satisfied that our soldiers have the ideological thinking to become guns and bombs to protect the revolutionary leadership in a fight to the death. ...

Another giveaway that it's not a mill is that it exists in New York. I've never heard of a degree mill living in New York. (Note: I say this because I'm really soliciting an interesting story about a mill that existed in NY that will prove me wrong.)
