I only have 11 hours left to complete my Bachelor of science degree in liberal arts for a psychology degree. I already finished all of my required psychology classes and only need 11 hours of either applied professional credits or arts & science to close out the degree. I saw a listing on Barnes & Noble that offered online classes and wondered if Excelsior college would except any CEU from a book store.

Also is their another way to get these hours faster and cheaper?

    FEMA CREDIT

Good Morning, Why not try to fit 11 FEMA EMI credits? This could be an quick-cheap way to finish. I think you will have to pay the 60 per credit to Frederick CC but it will be well worth it in time spent. Hille

    Take a look at :

    http://www.excelsior.edu/

I've been looking at their site for days now, but the info offered is limited. You will probably have to call them.

    FEMA EMI

Good Morning, Do a general search under FEMA EMI. The website has changed to become more user friendly. Scroll to the left and see the independent study courses. This will bring you to a list of courses that are free to take and can be transcripted at Frederick CC for 60 a credit. I am in touch with someone who has passed 15 in the last three weeks. You can also do a search on this web page that will bing you to comments about the credits. They are cheap and fast. Good Luck. I hope this is a way you can finish your degree in record time. OK, so FEMA is the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and EMI is the Emergency Management Institute. (Definitely not Arts & Science credits!) At http://training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/IS/ , it says, "We are not able to issue certificates at this time, and will resume this function in the next few weeks."

Frederick Community College ( http://www.frederick.edu ) is a 2-year college, hence it cannot award upper-level credit.

So if Avia93 needs lower-level (non-Arts-&-Science) credit, and is willing to wait a few weeks, this might be suitable.

    Hi,
I idea of using FEMA tests seems very appealing but does anyone know if "the big three" will accept those tests? And in what categories (Humanities, Social Sciences)?

    Regards

    Morten

I was told I cannot use my CEUs at Excelsior. Mine are all from a Masters Certificate at GWU in IT Project Management.

Which MAY qualify for lower level applied professional credits right (applied professional credits are credits that don't classify into the major)?

    Hille,

I have a question. Does TESC have an articulation agreement w/ FEMA as well? Do these FEMA credits convert into college credits at Fredrick (which, to TESC, are credits FROM Fredrick CC and NOT transfered credits from FEMA)? This tactic seems similar to some questions regarding transferring the English CLEP to TESC and THEN transferring it to Excelsior (which doesn't work).

    Best Regards,
    Bill

I don't see any reason why it shouldn't.

At Excelsior, "applied professional" apparently just means "doesn't have to be Arts & Sciences". You can always substitute Arts & Science credits for "applied professional" credits, but not necessarily vice versa. (The strange thing about Excelsior is that you need more science courses for their Bachelor of Arts than for their Bachelor of Science! The Bachelor of Science is for people with lots of "applied professional" credits.)

At Athabasca University, "applied studies" means "has to be not Arts & Sciences"! You can get their Bachelor of General Studies with 30 upper-level Arts & Science credits, or with 30 upper-level "applied studies" credits, but if you have 15 of each, you're out of luck.

Have you considered the portfolio route using your CEUs as partial evidence?

Any update as to whether Excelsior ever accepted these Fema (via FCC transcript) credits for the guy that took 15 or for the OP? This sounds like a great way to knock out a few quick credits.
