I was wondering if it were possible to credit bank a GRE with COSC or Excelsior and then successfully transfer them to another school?

Thanks in advance for the replies!

This part is definitely possible. My wife Rosie has deposited her GRE score in the Charter Oak Credit Registry.

    > and then successfully transfer them to another school?

Well, at http://www.geocities.com/BA_in_4_Weeks/enrollment.html , it says: "The resulting transcript can then be hawked to your institution of choice. There is no guarantee, however, that the receiving institution will accept all or any of the credits, though they may be more likely to accept these credits than award credit for raw proficiency exam passes garnered out with their 'care'."

I don't know what data this claim is based on. I will let you know how Rosie makes out.

OK, the first response came in, a one-sentence message from Western Illinois University:

"We received your transcript from Charter Oak and I regret to inform you that GRE credit cannot be used toward the BOT/BA degree."

Would anyone care to guess which of the 5 criteria at http://www.wiu.edu/users/mibogd/req/meet.html#trans was not met?

Still waiting to hear from 2 other universities.

Rosie asked Western Illinois University: "Could you please explain which of the 5 criteria at http://www.wiu.edu/users/mibogd/req/meet.html#trans my Charter Oak State College credit fails to meet? Perhaps you should add a 6th criterion that specifically addresses credit by examination?"

Response was: "We do accept proficiency exams but not the Graduate Record Exam as it is a test designed for entrance into graduate school. If you check in your Student Manual we have a section on proficiency exams and it indicates which exams we accept and the credit award for each exam."

Rosie got the following message from British Columbia Open University:

"Your program plan has been constructed, and transfer credit assessed and awarded with the exception of your GRE tests for Intro Psychology, Psychology Intermediate, Psychology Upper Division. We note that you were in fact assigned credit for these exams as reflected on the Board for State Academic Awards-State of Connecticut Charter Oak State College transcripts. However, we would require more information from you in order to have these serve as transfer credit towards your BCOU program. Should the above in fact be individual courses that you wish to have transfer credit for, please forward us course descriptions and course outlines on each indicating the content of each course, etc."

Any suggestions how to respond to this? At http://www.bcou.ca/services/policies/transfer.html , it says, "Credit may be granted on a course-by-course basis or for a combination of courses. Credit granted for a group of courses or an entire program is known as 'block transfer.'" But there's no info on how to claim the "block transfer", except for certain diplomas.

I wonder if Thomas Edison State College would accept her GRE credits from COSC?

Final response from British Columbia Open University:

"The Associate Dean has informed me that we cannot adjust your transfer credit assessment for your GRE tests, as we do not accept this type of assessment from non-Canadian institutions for transfer credit. Should you wish to gain credit for this work you must apply to challenge a course or undergo our own Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) process."

3 out of the 3 institutions that we tried (Western Illinois University, British Columbia Open University, Athabasca University) awarded no credit for the transcript from COSC's Credit Registry. So my answer is no.
