Hello everyone, I just found this site and am totally impressed with it. I wish I had such a great tool years ago when I was working on my DL degrees. I'm currently thinking about earning another bachelor's degree in accounting so that I can sit for the CPA exam. I'm looking but for some odd reason there really aren't that many DL undergrad accounting programs out there. Oh well, the search continues. Incidentally, I noticed that John Bear frequents this board as well. I first began to think about DL degrees by reading one of Dr. Bear's books. If I had never stumbled upon that book years ago I would be living a totally different life now. Thanks, Dr. Bear! Cy
I noticed you attended Regis University. I am considering Regis U. for a BSCIS degree. I was wondering how you would rate your overall experience there??? Thanks!
Thanks for the kind words, Cy. The subject index to Bears' Guide 15 lists a couple of dozen non-resident Bachelor's degrees in accounting and finance, including two of the 'big three' (Excelsior, Thomas Edison), along with Upper Iowa, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods*, Liberty, and so on. _________ * Their golf team is playing St. Mary-of-the-Irons this spring
Jim, My overall experience with Regis was not too bad. I would have to rate it an 8 out of a possible 10. I'm knocking off a couple of points for two reasons. First, each student is assigned two advisors: one advisor with the University Alliance; and one advisor with Regis. My advisor at Regis was TERRIBLE. He NEVER answered his e-mails. I finally got him to respond to me once after registering a formal complaint with the University Alliance. Second, I had another negative experience that I believe should not happen again. I had one instructor that gave the entire class a failing grade on two exams in a row. We followed the man's instructions to a "T". Nevertheless, he admonished the class for not doing as he had instructed. Many of my classmates and I logged formal complaints. The dean supposedly talked to this person and I ended up earning an "A" in the class. I later learned that he was fired from the school. I was very pleased with the academic content of the courses and the delivery method. Although there are no exams for the courses, each course is very demanding. I always felt like I really accomplished something after completing one of these courses. If you don't like writing lots of papers, Regis is NOT for you. I read an explanation once (can't remember where) of Regis' philosophy behind not requiring exams. They believe that the way you assimilate information, process it, and present it is far more valuable in the business world than testing your skills at short-term memorization. This makes a lot of sense to me. And believe me, you will get plenty of practice with doing this through Regis. I can honestly say that I believe that the Regis educational method has better prepaired me for the real-world application of business than the cram and test method possibly could have. Cy
Cy, Thanks, I appreciate the response! I've read many reviews over the last few weeks regarding Regis U. and every one of them has been much more positive than negative, including yours. I'm going to give Regis U. a try! Jim.
Jim, That's great news! If I can be of any assistance, feel free to contact me anytime. [email protected] Cy
Celebrity Status Yes, Dr. John Bear is this boards most famous celebrity. Most boards don’t have celebrities, but this one has Dr. Bear. It’s quite remarkable, isn’t it? I'll bet that 20 years ago, Dr. Bear would have never guessed that his status would have ever been elevated in such a fashionable way. It is nearing cult status.
