I am considering taking a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Excelsior College, and most of my questions have been answered simply by going through all the input on this forum (it seems that Excelsior is quite popular).
However, as a European ECE tests are impossible to take over here, I have been thinking about two ways to get around this.
    1) GRE in Psychology. Even if I only score 60% (I prefer to be a bit conservative) it will still be worth some 18 credit hours.
    2) Mark Israel pointed out that previously that it is possible to get 16 credit hours through Foreign language fluence at (http://www2.scps.nyu.edu/dyncon/acfl/gene_prof.html)
My question is, how many of those 34-46 credit hours can I transfer?
A BS in business from any of the big three will be fine. I am not picky only desperate ;-)

    Kind regards,
    Morten

Have you looked at Lawrie Miller's site: "B.A. in 4 Weeks"? She gives a complete manual for obtaining a business degree from Excelsior. There's a link to her site on the resources page of degreeinfo.com.

I know Lawrie's page. However, it is not very specific when it comes dividing the credit hours. My main concern is how I can use my "easy" credit hours in the best way.

    GRE in Psychology

Please note that it's 60th percentile: to get 18 credits from Excelsior, you have to score better than 60% of the people taking the test.

My wife Rosie scored at the 48th percentile after a month of intensive study. That's worth 9 credits at Excelsior, 18 at Charter Oak. We've put the score through the Charter Oak Credit Registry, and I'll keep this discussion board updated on what other universities make of the Charter Oark transcript.

I don't know what your background in Psychology is. Have you take the sample test at ftp://ftp.ets.org/pub/gre/Psychology.pdf ?
Anyone interested in study materials for this exam can e-mail me privately.

    I see what you mean.
What I meant was how many of such "not directly relevant" credit hours can be used towards a business degree. COSC does seem to be most generous regarding the GRE test. But will they recognize the language test the same way Excelsior will? And if they do how many of the 18+16 credit hours will actually be used?

Well, it depends how well you do. If you score at the 65th percentile or above, you will get more credits at Excelsior (and probably even more credits at Empire State College, which awards up to 36 credits for the GRE).

No, Charter Oak will not accept the NYU exam, and will not award more than 12 credits for foreign language fluency. (Are these 12 credits based on the CLEP? I thought the Charter Oak people I spoke with named a different exam, but I do remember they said not more than 12 credits.)

I don't know anything about applicability to a business degree.

    Thanks for the quick reply.
In any case I do not know if I will be able to do an entire BS by testing since ECE tests are not available in Europe.
I have given Andrew Jackson University (even though they are not RA, but they accept quite a lot of credit transfer) and Western Governers University some thought (they have just recieved RA status).

I remember now: Charter Oak wanted Rosie to take the ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) exam. 12 credits, no more. Good reason not to enrol at Charter Oak.

Rosie took her FLATS exam in Portuguese this morning. Again, she finished a 3-hour exam in 1 hour, but she's not sure how well she did. (She doesn't speak Portuguese; this was based on her knowledge of Spanish and some quick study. The FLATS exam is pure multiple-choice, so she just might have pulled it off.)

Rosie got the full 12 semester-hours for her Portuguese FLATS.

If the lack of ECE exams is the biggest problem, you might want to lok at COSC. I do believe you could fill every catagory except RESEARCH with CLEPS and DANTES. I know that the only ECE exam I had to take was Research Methods in Psy, everything else was completd through CLEPS, DANTES, or traditional class work. Also, with COSC, you can customize your degree plan.

    Good luck.
