I need some advice. I recently finished my BS in Computer Technology at Excelsior, and would like to complement it with their BS Degree in Business. Anyone know what their rules are with regards to credit and such? I am an excellent tester, and am also accepted into a Master's program in IT. I am trying to broaden my appeal and play in the bigs.

    Thanks,

    Tim

I believe the 2 issues are you will need to complete the requirements of the Business degree and you will need to aquire 30 credits total past the first Bachelor's degree.

    OK, I'm being deliberately provocative . . .
If you REALLY want to broaden your appeal and play in the BIGS then you should think BIGGER . Forget the second Bachelors degree. Get an MBA AND your Masters in IT. Otherwise, scale back, think about that three bedroom ranch in the burbs with the minivan parked in the driveway.

Gee, I just asked for some advice and see what you get? As for me I already have ALL of those beaten. I used to really appreciate the info I obtained here. So from your opinion the paid for 4000 square foot house in the Bay Area and the three infinitis (also paid for) must just be smoke! Dave, thanks for your help! I also will remember Jack's oh so kind advice!

    Best Regards,

     :D

Even if you've got the house and cars you've described, my advice is still good. If you don't understand that two Masters degrees are more valuable to a career than two Bachelors degrees then you're not as smart as you pretend to be.
BTW, you're the one who said you were a minor leaguer, not me.

    timmyq45,

In one of your previous posts you implied that you have a MAster certificate from GWU in IT Project Management

That should complement your BS in Computer Technology just fine.

I do have a Masters Certificate, but for the positions I am applying for i.e. Deputy Director and above, there was concern that I could be viewed as a "geek". While it is also true that an MBA would be useful, and Jack I may go back and get one in the future, since I can petition out of 5 classes in Capella's MAsters program, it made sense that I could possibly test out of a B.S. in Business from Excelsior, which would demonstrate that I am not limited to only the technical realm.

To answer other posts, about plying in the big leagues, in the past I have done so while in the military. But since I completed my twenty years of service a couple of years ago, in the civilian environment I currently work in is very different, which is why I have focused on certification and more recently education.

It may be true that what Jack said is correct, however, I will evaluate the need for that option down the road. While I must admit I didn't really appreciate his remarks, I guess that in a way he could be correct. I don't feel that it is currently an option at this point in time.
