I got my transcript from COSC and it lists my concentration as Individualized Studies. That was my chioce but my credits and essay were in Technology & Business. The transcript does not list Technology & Business anywhere nor does it indicate the credits used for the "Major" Has anyone else seen this and how can this be explained? Can this be an issue with prospective employers? I don't want my degree to appear to be from a degree mill.
I'm trying to see your point, but I'm having trouble. How would a concentration in Individualized Studies make COSC seem like a degree mill?
There does not appear to be any pattern to how the credits are listed. It appears to simply be a collection of random credits grouped by source. My transcirpt from my AA from UoP indicates the credits applied toward the concentration. The employer would have to take my word that my concentration was related to Technology and Business. I guess I just hoped it would look more structured.
There really shouldn't be any danger of COSC being thought of as a degree mill, though. At worst you might just have to explain the nature of your major, but you'll still have a verifiable RA bachelor's degree. On a resume maybe you could list it as something like: "Concentration in Individualized Study of Technology and Business." I doubt that it would ever be an issue, but if necessary you could always present your essay and degree plan as proof that this was your subject area. However, it seems unlikely to me that anyone would ever challenge it.
COSC describes them as disciplines. So you have a degree of Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts with a Concentration in Individualized Studies and then disciplines in Business and Technology. That is how you would list it on your resume. I would not worry about the perception of COSC. My wife has her degree from there and is working on her Teacher Certification with East Carolina University. It has not set her back at all. Duff
Randell, COSC is a well-established institution. It will not be mistaken as a degree mill. On my vita, I list my emphases like this: B.A. Spanish (secondary teaching emphasis) M.Ed. Educational Psychology (instructional technology emphasis) Perhaps you could list yours like this: B.A. (or B.S.) Individualized Studies (business & technology emphasis) For what it's worth...
