Good Day to the board !
I have been lurking for a while and am in need some help. I am trying to enroll in TESC for a BA Liberal Studies degree. I have quite a few lower and upper-level business courses. I am wondering if these classes will fulfill the General Ed Electives or the Free Electives portion of the degree requirements. The rest of my courses are all liberal arts related and I dont want to pursue the Bus degree as I am closer to the Liberal Arts degree. I am thinking that my military training/ACE approved credits will fulfill the Free Electives portion, and the Bus courses will fill the Gen Ed Electives portion. Any help would be greatly appreciated from the members of the board. Thank you

  2. Welcome to the Board, o numeric one.

When I was did my B.A. in Humanities from TESC (I graduated in 1987), the General Electives were called Liberal Arts Electives. They could come from any of the three major liberal arts areas: Humanities, Social Sciences, or Math & Natural Sciences. They could not come from an area, such as business, that did not fit into the liberal arts.

Some course areas are abstract - computer courses, for example. If a course has a significant math component (Intro. to Computer Science, BASIC, PASCAL, etc.) it would count as a lberal arts course. But if it were a practical course or dealt with a specific program that did not have a significant math component (word processing, RPG, Microsoft Office, etc.) it would have to be counted as a free elective.

My guess, therefore, is that you will have to include your business credits under Free Electives, not General Education. (I challenged seven business courses, or 21 credits, via portfolio, and they all went into the Free Electives area.)

    Thank You for the help

Especially Hille, she is really going over my transcripts and enlisting the help of other members. 4Q, that was a great thread and I think we have about the same situation as well. I wish I would have known about this site sooner. Take care all,

    Cory
