I need to come up a some kind of degree QUICK! It doesn't matter what it is, as long as it is accredited. I was commissioned in the army prior to this requirement and now it is catching up with me. I have 62 hours that don't really add up to anything. I need to do all of this online. I am sure I will be able to get life experience credits too. The army doesn't care what kind of degree I get and at this point, neither do I. My question is: what is considered the fastest/simplest degree to get. I don't mean to demean anyone's degree, I want to get one. My concern is I am the sole support for a family of 4 and I am 51 years old.

Check out Lawrie Miller's website. Also, use the search function on this website to check out posts on Thomas Edison State College, Charter Oak State College and Excelsior College.

    Best of luck,
    Mayer

You'll get more helpful advice if you post the specifics of the credits you've already acquired, your military training, and other experiece. Your best bet for getting a degree as quickly as possible will probably be to do it primarily via exams through Thomas Edison State College, Excelsior College, or Charter Oak State College, often collectively referred to in this forum as "The Big 3." You should look at Lawrie Miller's BA in 4 Weeks site for some helpful information about completing this type of degree. Since you live in this area I'd be happy to meet with you in person if it would help. You can email me at [email protected].

    TESC

Hello, I believe that TESC charges the military the same amount as in state students. If you decide to navigate in this way feel free to contact me. I believe the other choices may give better customer service. Good Luck. This will be an easier quest then you believe. Hille

    Any Degree Answered!

I hope I am answering this correctly. Thank all-ya'll (plural) for the help. This may not be as bad as I thought.

Hey, do like I did...test out of a BA in Liberal Studies from TESC.

If you were to look at my transcript, you'd see how incoherent the credits are and you can tell I didn't know which way I was headed. But it didn't matter as long as I met TESC's GER.

However, that BA made me instantly more promotable (I'm a SNCO in the USAF) and opened the door for me to enter Touro's MBA program.

    Good luck!

Good luck. Yuns make good shoes in San Antonio, too (SAS).

TESC accepts FEMA credits. 25 free online courses.

    Start today.

25 would be too many for most programs but they are free and can be done at home.

Only US residents so we foreigners are SOL.

Dennis, are any of those 25 courses upper-level?

SATX, can you be more specific than "some kind of degree"? Does it have to be a Bachelor's degree? (If not, an Associate's degree requires only 60 credits.) Does it have to be a 4-year degree? (If not, Athabasca has a Bachelor of General Studies degree requiring only 90 credits.)

Thanks Dennis. My understanding is that it needs to be a bachelors from an accredited school. I will check into that though. And again, thanks to everyone for the help.

    Sorry, I mean Mark.

    SATX,

TESC is accredited. FEMA is not HOWEVER, what Dennis was suggesting, is that you enroll into TESC and apply 21 credits worth of FEMA courses (they are online and free) to your bachelors from TESC.

Also, SATX, there are a couple Army correspondence courses that are ace recommended (I think one with upper level management credit).

There are Marine Corps Institute correspondence courses. www.mci.usmc.mil . These are open to all active duty (I guess to enlisted AND commisioned; I don't see why there would be a problem... other than finding a suitable proctor?). There are all kinds of courses you can take (MOS related mostly some are a little more academic in nature, however).

Navy Elearning (sorry don't have the URL do a google on elearning and navy) had several NETG courses online. From what I have been hearing they are ACE recommended for credit (I don't know specifics, but maybe you can figure out which ones are). I am not sure if these are open to all active duty members or just Navy/Corps.

Just a reminder, CLEP and DSST's (are ECE's?) are FREE for you at your local base education office.

    Best Regards,
    Bill

Excelsior will award credit based on military training so this will boost the 62 hrs. you have. You just just need to get it evaluated. I know a significant number of graduates who have earned their commissions after obtaining an Excelsior degree and I am sure there were many that have been in the same situation as you.

The first thing I would do is goto the AARTS Transcript homepage and see how many credits you have from the Army.

Next, goto the website for Charter Oak State College , Excelsior , or Thomas Edison State College and check the degree requirements.

See how many of your 63 + military credits fit into their degree requirements.

Next, goto the website that lists themilitary passing rate for exams (also look at the percentages for the CLEP and ECE exams)

I am in the Army Reserves so I took 19 free CLEP/DANTES/ECE exams in seven weeks and passed 16 of them. I did not really study for most of the exams. I started with the exams that had the highest passing rates. I thought that they could be the easiest. I completed my degree in under 3 months.

    Good luck

TESC -Good News for the Service Members

Hi, In checking the TESC I was glad to see that the services are offered a reduced rate. I was unaware that this group is given the option of transferring only twelve new credits into a BA scheme. This is great news for the poster who should be done within 4 months . Hille

Cal State U Dominguez Hills grants 6 lower division semester units for verifiable military service. This might give a clue what other schools may offer.
