Barrington University's USA Today advertisement (2-5-03)states the following:

What does .edu mean? Only established universities in distance education are awarded .edu .

10 year history, thousands of graduates. Licensed Bach. & Mast. Degrees.

The .edu suffix is now "awarded?"

    Hmmmm!

This of course is clearly false and misleading.

The .edu is not limited to distance learning institutions. While new .edu addresses are limited to institutions accredited by a recognized accrediting body, Barrington was grand fathered in under the old rules which basically required only a $65.00 fee with no questions asked.
