I wanted to get the thoughts of a London based college and I came across. It seems they have a pretty nice curriculum for DBA and Ph.D. The profile states, “Established in 1979, The City College is an independent institution for local and international students. Over the years thousands of students have successfully completed their studies at The City College, and have progressed to higher studies in British Universities or secured successful careers in a variety of fields. As well as high academic standards and quality of tuition, The City College is also noted for its prompt response to education and training developments in the global environment.” Their tuition for distance learning is £2,850 per annum, very reasonable. There DBA/Ph.D. program is under the Newport Intl. Univ. section of the college. What is the reputation and status of this school?

City college is accredited by British Accreditation Council.

The British Accreditation Council is a private company limited by guarantee established in 1984.

(Registered in England No. 1828990) registered as a charity (Charities Registration No. 326652)

Not sure if Newport International DBA/PHD is equivalent to RA DBA/PHD.

Did a search for Newport International University and couldn't find anything significant.

Is this unaccredited, California approved Newport University in an international guise??

The British Council recommends that persons choosing to study at a private educational institution in the United Kingdom select one that has been accredited by the British Accreditation Council (BAC). BAC accredits only private sector education. It does not accredit government-funded universities and colleges. Thus BAC is not like a regional accrediting association in the United States.

BAC accredits colleges of further education and colleges of higher education, but not the programs or qualifications they offer. BAC-accredited colleges serve students 16 years of age and older. They offer courses leading to General Certificate of Education-Advanced Level (GCE-A) examinations, General National Vocational Qualification (GNVQ) examinations, other vocational qualifications (e.g., examinations administered by the Royal Society of Arts), professional qualifications (e.g., examinations administered by the Chartered Institute of Marketing), and bachelor's degrees.

No BAC-accredited college is authorized to award a degree. Students who complete a BAC-accredited college's bachelor's degree program receive a degree from a university that has validated the degree program. A degree is officially recognized on the basis of the institution that awarded it, not on the basis of the institution at which a student studied.

Similarly, other qualifications received by a student who has studied at a BAC-accredited college are granted recognition on the basis of the examining board or organization that awarded the qualification.

Recognition given to a certificate or diploma awarded by a BAC-accredited college itself varies, depending on what the qualification is and whether or not a university has any agreements with the college to accept students with that particular qualification. Because BAC accreditation applies to the college and not to the qualifications it awards, these qualifications are judged on their own merits.

I explored this option long time ago, the degree will be issued by Newport that is an unaccredited university in the US. So you will end with a california approved degree at the end.

I graduated from Newport Hong Kong branch. Although Newport China branch is accredited with the Beijing commission and State Education Commision, I still ended with a CA approved degree.:(
