Yes, I got in with no problem. The site mentions relocating to the US and gives an e-mail address for contact while the offices are closed.

Strange. Maybe all Aussie browsers are banned now?

    Cheers,

John Howard (Ausie PM) has obviously censored what Ausies can
    view on their computer screens.
We in a more civilised area of the South Pacific don't yet have these problems and greenwich.edu pops up instantly - with the same two month old story.:)

Greenwich enters the proud waters of Australia seeking to make a valuable contribution to the Aussie higher education system, but the big boys on the block treat the newcomer with disdain and contempt. After several years of being ostracized, maligned and otherwise snubbed, GU has moved on to more fertile ground.

Now that GU has gathered all its toys and left town, why should Aussies get to peruse the institution's website, follow their progress on the path to accreditation, or enroll in GU's Ph.D. programs? ;)

I would repeat what you said without the wink. In a world filled with unaccreditied schools, Greenwich appeared to be one of the more serious ones.

    George Brown asked:

Can anybody access: http://www.greenwich.edu & http://www.greenwich.edu.nf ? They both appear to be down at the momment.

    And later:

Strange. Maybe all Aussie browsers are banned now?

George, I can open the first URL - the Greenwich home page - from down here but not the second.

Maybe the Adelaide water has got into your system??

    Kind regards

fnhayes: "John Howard (Ausie PM) has obviously censored what Ausies can

John: The first time we went to New Zealand (1976), the big deal in the news was the wish of a distributor to show the film Lady Chatterly's Lover. There seemed a strong feeling that the film was inappropriate somehow, but an equally strong feeling against censorship. The solution was to allow the film to be shown . . . to women only on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and to men only on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. No showings on Sunday.

Things have certainly changed in NZ since the draconian 1970's; we're even allowed to buy Ausie wine and beer in our supermarkets! But we're still not allowed to buy spirits at the supermarket, and some shops are not allowed to open on Good Friday!
However, most polytechnics and universities have also been seriously into DL for many years, with the Open Polytechnic (founded as the Technical Correspondence Institute in 1947), and where I was employed for 24 years (until they caught up with me!), being the 'leader' with around 40,000 DL students.
I still run the highly successful DL Firearms Safety course (launched in 1987) for the Open Polytechnic, as an adjunct tutor - a course which has now been hooked into our Qualifications Authority Framework. We believe this is a 'world first' for 'accredited' distance learning, which is very appropriate as we are the first country in the world.
    :)
