CCU on the path to RA?

According to yesterday's poster, CCU is attempting to actively pursue NCA accreditation, and NCA has been receptive. Is this true? What do you think of the odds? Could other unconvetional schools maintain their current approches to education, which is largely why these schools remain State Approved/Registered, and, as such, also gain valuable regional accreditation. How will CCU be able to justify their issue of fully DL Doctorates? Would not DETC be a better choice for such programs? Could CCU's approach be the next wave of RA DL schools? If so, where does this leave the DETC?

DETC doesn't accredit at the doctoral level.

RJT is perhaps confusing California Coast U. with Columbia Commonwealth U.? CCWU is being used on the Columbia Commonwealth web site and by at least some of the posters with a connection to CCWU.

Perhaps the confusion was with me. I have heard that CCWU desires accreditation and NCA is the one for Wyoming.

I always refer to my school as the U of A. Unfortunately nobody outside Alberta knows what I am talking about.

    Strangely enough, I do.

Many of the people at the U of A seemed to be from Saskatchewan.

When I lived in Manitoba many asked what U of A meant.

  8. My understanding is that CCWU plans to apply to request to affiliate with NCA by the end of this year. I think "affiliation" is the term NCA uses to begin the relationship toward candidacy and for the institution to begin its self-study processes on programs and practices. However, I also know that CCWU cannot make such an announcement at such an early stage (and has not made such an announcement). CCWU can, however, announce regional accreditation candidacy status, should it be received (only when it is official).

CCWU, as I understand it, is currently looking for the "right" piece of property in the "right" area of Wyoming. I take that to mean the cheapest and best looking piece of property, hopefully becoming an institution. I have seen pictures of three properties CCWU has been looking at. There has also been talk of short residency for one or more programs (also contingent on costs).

I have had many "vision" conversations with Dr. Les Carr, the CCWU president. However vision does not always translate into action and results. Suffice it to say that Carr definitely wants regional accreditation and I am certainly like a dog biting at his heels (reminding him - as he already knows - that RA is the only way to go for a US market).

As far as I understand CCWU sees great potential for PhD programs. I continue to remind them that RA is mandatory for PhD graduates to find adjunct or better teaching work in universities. Carr also agree with this. So ... it looks like an application could happen ... but all good skeptics such as myself will believe it when we see it.
