Good Morning, Check the Thomas Edison State College website and then feel free to direct any questions you have to me or others. There is a great explanation of portfolios found at degreeinfo. I found several changes that could make things slightly easier for you if you decide to go this way. I also suggest you pursue a situation with Camden County College (NJ). They offer a portfolio option that is inexpensive. Also check Lawrie Millers page for great inspiration. Good Luck with the quest. Hille ( Order a copy of Dr Bears new book)*********

I don't know whether or not it's my turn to point it out, but for reputable programs "credit for life experience" means that after you use exams/portfolios/certifications/etc. to demonstrate skills acquired through life experience, credit will be granted (as opposed to granting credit for a letter from a former supervisor, for example.)

    Regards.

Empire State College offers Credit By Evaluation. Basically you submit what you think you can get credit for. They find a person with those skills who will do a telephone interview with you and determine if you can get three or four credits. I got 20 credits this way. Good Luck

There is also Excelsior College in New York and Charter Oak State College in Connecticut. Use the search function on this site to look at threads about these schools. By all means get Dr Bear's latest guide: it is stuffed full of information, can save you enormous amounts of time and money, and is often wildly funny.
