When I hear Bellevue University, I think of the famous psych ward always mentioned on Barney Miller.

Don't know anything about St. Leo.

Liberty University is a solid university.

If any of the business depts are accredited by the A.......whatever business accreditor then that would probably weigh heavily. Cost and other factors should probably be taken into account (esp in today's economy).

As you no doubt realize, there are some 200 DL MBA programs out there. I'm curious why you shortlisted these three. Obviously you are using some kind of selection criteria, and the answer to your question about which of the three is "best" would depend on what criteria you are using.

I have no personal experience with any of them. Off the top of my head, I'd say:

Bellevue U. is located in Bellevue Nebraska, the Omaha suburb adjacent to Offut Air Force Base which is the headquarters of the Strategic Air Command. I'd guess that it attracts a lot of part-time students from among military personnel. (Bellevue offers some of its class sections on-base at Offut.)

Liberty U. is a very conservative school, both politically and theologically (at Liberty those things aren't entirely distinct). It was founded by Jerry Falwell, and seems to be a school on a mission. It may evoke controversy in liberal circles that aren't sympathetic with that mission.

St. Leo is the oldest Catholic college in FL, Benedictine, and much more relaxed about its religion than Liberty. Like Bellevue, they offer adult-ed programs at remote sites, and educate lots of military personnel. I heard somewhere that the actor Lee Marvin was once a student there, long ago. In "The Dirty Dozen", Marvin's character certainly showed excellent management skills, so I'm impressed.

What are you looking for in an MBA program?

My short list (as of this week) consist of Amberton and Touro University International. Both are RA with rather low tuitions. Touro cost is $300 per credit and has no book cost (infomation is given on CD) Amberton is $165 per credit but you have to buy books. Each school has interesting concentrations.

This week I am leaning toward Touro because I have recently spoken with an advisor. But Amberton is much more in my price range due to other obligations.

At any rate you have to decide what you want to gain from the program. Do a search on this board of the two schools. There are also several students of Touro on the board.

    Good Luck! ;)

Just curious. Why did you limit your options to three schools only?

I choose liberty because of the lecture VHS, cost(235/credit) and short residency.

St Leo - because of cost (290/credit and 36 credits) - more analytical subjects compared to Touro.

Bellevue - I heard good things abt the programs as one of my Colleague is doing his MBA.

The three are excellent choices but I will go with Liberty.Short residency is even a plus.

Of the three you're listed, I'd pick Liberty University. It has a solid reputation (albeit a very conservative one). However, I think you're doing yourself a disservice by not explaining what you're looking for in an MBA program. It sounds like cost is a big factor followed by analytical subjects. If you told the members of the board what was important to you, and what you wanted to get out of the degree, we could be of more help to you.

    Steve,
Sorry for that. I am working for a MNC and here in USA for 2 yrs on a project. Planning to return to India by the end of 2004. I just want to do an accredited MBA and market myself back home for a better position and also have plan to do PHD in india. I just need to complete a RA MBA by the end of next year.
I like touro but may face difficulties marketing myself as not many companies/universities know about it. So my shortlist were Bellevue,Liberty and St Leo.
I came to know that St Leo is fairly a new program. From your reply Liberty seems to have a solid reputation. Let me know what do you think.

I suggest you avoid Liberty. Jerry Falwell is considered a very frightening individual in many parts of the world outside of the U.S. Why carry this extra baggage back to India?

Well, it sounds like you're looking for a school that's RA (at a minimum) and that someone in India will have heard of. This could be more of a challenge then usual. Because it seems to me that people in the U.S. only know of schools that are either 1) Ivy League, 2) have a very good football team, or 3) are close to where they live. That means that there are many, many good schools that most people have never heard of. (I think this is why diploma mills are so successful.)

You would know better than I, but it seems to me that people in India probably know even fewer U.S. schools by name. Will your employer have heard of any of the three schools you listed? Maybe you should narrow your list to schools that have a good website? As silly as this sounds, how will an overseas employer evaluate your choice of school? Will they search for your school via the web? Will they look at U.S. News and World Report to see if it's ranked? At least Touro College is listed there. (O.K. That was a shameless plug for Touro. Sorry about that.)

Another huge concern is your time limit. If you need to be finished by next year, that's going to be tight. Hmm... Maybe with this additional information about what you're looking for in an MBA, others on this board will have some more words of wisdom.

Here are my comments from an earlier thread:

    http://www.degreeinfo.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7042

I am a Liberty MBA student. I chose Liberty University for the following reasons:

    1. Regional accreditation.
    2. Christian worldview (FYI some Bible reading is required, each video taped lecture begins with prayer, and comments on my writing assignments(which have been secular in nature) have included Biblical references).
    3. History of military friendliness.
    4. Video taped lectures (An asynchronous program was a must, as I will be at sea for much of the program.
    5. Some face to face (When I enrolled the program called for 6 hours of residency. Now only 3 hours of residency are requred for the capstone course).

FYI. All of the above are pros as far as I'm concerned.

I have found the program to be more of a challenge than I had imagined.

For what its worth, the MNC I work for paid 50% of my tuition.

Condition: the academic institution should be regionally accredited. Working for MNCs for the past 19 years, employers in the business world are usually more concerned about your work experience then the specification of your school.

Frightening? Frightening to whom? That's a very strong word and a wrong choice of word for that matter. For your information, Liberty University is not a Catholic or Protestant seminary. Also, it is neither a Rabbinical school nor a Madarassa (an Islamic school that trains clerics). It is a private university that admits DL students of all faiths. I am a Catholic but I will have no problem choosing Liberty despite the fact that some evangelical Protestants do not think that Catholics are Christians.

Truly. As far as I remember there are no religious requirements for those taking Liberty U's DL program. Liberty has a well developed DL program and a bricks & mortar campus. I guess the second thing is that not everyone will connect Liberty with Falwell. It is not like ORU (which is a 2nd tier university) that has Oral's name attached to the school.

I am looking at Liberty University after having a bitter experience with Uni North Alabama. UNA wants me to take 7 pre req courses from Col southern university or any community colleges. That would extend my MBA to 3 yrs.

Liberty DLP MBA looks like a good progam and they send class lectures on VHS. There is one week residency which is ok with me.

cost = $235 per credit + books and tapes.

    Good luck in your search.
