I have done a search on this forum to see if these questions had been answered.

1)Does Charter Oak have an upper level credit requirement? All I have found was the 90 liberal arts classes needed for the B.A. degree. I did find a post that said there was a requirement of 15 u.l. credits, but could not find it on the Charter Oak Website.

    2) My second question involves this paragraph from the website, "If credits apply to more than one category, credits will be counted only once toward the total needed for the degree. "

That is referring to the general education requirements for COSC. Am I understanding this correctly to mean that I might have a class that fits more than one category for Gen. Ed. classes it will fulfill both requirements, but that class does not count towards my overall credit total?

    thanks ahead of time,

Yes, COSC does have an upper level credit requirement. You have to have 27 credits (I believe) above the basic and 15 of the 27 must be labled as Upper Level. Intermediate (above basic) is usually your 300 level classes and Upper level is usually considered your 400 level classes. Anything below 300 is almost always basic level courses. Usually Junior and Senior level classes cover this requirement. If you go to their website and go to their "forms" page, you can print a concentration form and it list this information on the top of that form.

Regarding your other question, that means simply this...Say you want a concentration in Biology and you took BIO 400. Well, you also need a biology (science) course to satisfy your general education requirement. COSC is not going to count BIO 400 for both. They will only count it for one requirement and you will have to make up the other one with another class.

    Hope this clears everything up.

    thank you

Thanks for the info...i am going to print it out now!

I was confused about that paragraph because when you read it in context (general education requirements) then you would think that it is talking about classes applying to more than one category in the general education area.

"If credits apply to more than one category, credits will be counted only once toward the total needed for the degree. "

    Thanks for the clear up...

The bottom line is, they may apply a class to more then one area but they are not going to give you 6 credits for a 3 credit class just because they applied it to more then one area.

The 100 level classes are Basic, 200 Intermediate, 300 and 400 Upper.

As far as "If credits apply to more than one category, credits will be counted only once toward the total needed for the degree. " If I took a Humanities class that filled the A & W group, I would only get 3 credits although two groups were complete. You are still required to complete 120 credits but now you have more room for electives.

I just completed my BS from COSC and was confused also.

by the way, 36 credits is required for the BS - 9 basic, 12 Intermediate, and 15 Upper

    Thanks

well, I am finally doing it. I sent off for transcripts to be sent to Charter Oak State College...I am hoping that most of my requirements will be met (GEN ED. requirements) so that i can plug away at the holes with cleps, dantes, ECE, and GRE exams. Just so I can get done. :D :D :D
