Good Morning, This was mentioned on the e-mail publication of the NYT and seems to have some interesting dl options. Classes starting 2/3/03. Have a good week. Hille
Article in The Chronicle of Higher Education: New School U. and Britain's Open U. Create a Distance-Education Partnership.
This is a good thing, esp. because Britan's Open U. seems unwilling to admit americans. The name of the institution, not been mentioned yet, will be: "Open University Worldwide USA"
"Open University Worldwide USA" has existed for 5 years -- as a for-profit corporation managing the business aspects of OU's collaborations in the U.S. For example, the collaboration with Florida State University.
But what about all these branding changes: Open University, U.S. Open University, Open University Worldwide USA. This is confusing for the potential customer base and prolongs building brand-name recognition. "[CEO Richard A. Maidment] said the new partnership would be more effective in marketing Open University courses than the previous ventures." Perhaps over time.... The even more interesting news in The Chronicle (linked in the above story) was this: eArmy expands teh number of partnering institutions by a dozen, including Indiana University.... "The new institutions...plan to bring in an additional 68 degree programs over the next six to nine months." http://chronicle.com/free/2003/01/2003012802t.htm --Orson
