Hi. This is my first time posting on this board, so please be gentle. ;) I am looking at getting a degree through DL. I have a full-time career in IT, and have had one for the past 6 years. I am married and have two kids (one being born very recently), so going to a "bricks-and-mortar" school isn't viable right now. I have an MCSE (NT 4.0, ugh), but want to get a degree to augment my resume/experience. I found Ashworth College online, and the program was reasonably priced, as well as offering more "recent" courses in technology (Office XP, Visual Basic), unlike another DL school which mentioned QBasic as a "latest" technology. QBasic???

Anyhow, I searched the forums but nothing real recent has been mentioned about Ashworth College. Has anyone on this board had experiences with them? Would this be a good option? Thanks for your time.

Well, Ashworth is nationally-accredited (second-string compared to regional accreditation, but completely legit). If it suits your time and budget, why not? Other posters may be able to suggest some RA alternatives at comparable cost, though--wait and see what else gets mentioned. Transferring these credits to a later RA institution would be hard or impossible, if that is a possibility you are considering. This is NOT a mill, in any case. Good luck. I wonder why there is a golf tee on the college crest/logo???

A friend of mine is completing a degree in police science via Ashworth. He has shared with me that it is no quick/easy route. Each course is designed with text books, workbook, proctored exams, etc. Although it is not RA, but DETC, the local police department he works for accepts the Ashworth degree.

First of all, I have no aversion to na schools. In fact, I currently am attending one. Still, with your background, you may find a faster and less expensive degree through one of the "big three". This degree would also yield more utility and you may be able to finish it and a masters in your field in about the same time. Either way, good luck on your educational pursuits.

Thank you very much for your input. In doing more research, I've also found University of Phoenix, which might also fit my needs, depending on the financial aide end of things. Thanks for the great information!
