How do they start schools?

I just recently found IStudySmart.com. If I had known I could've tested out of most of my classes I definitely would've taken that route rather than the juggling I did. Got me wondering just how they start these schools? I know from about.com links to regional accredidation sites and dept. of edu. that there's a lot of (surprise) paperwork. You need to have an established CEO, business plan, assets, etc. I want to start my own school that's all testing and you end up with a basic or general degree. I mean I'm just throwing this out there because, hey, they may already have this kind of program. I guess the only difference is I wouldn't charge a huge amount of money per credit so that single mothers/fathers could afford it - for example. Ya know? I don't know - just seems like this all could be handled a lot easier and cheaper for some reason.

Go for it! But you've got competition.

You've got competition, but go for it!

There's already LOTS of schools that are catered to impovished students. There's the big 3 (COSC, TESC, Excelsior) that take credit for work experience/exams. There's also (GSU, WIU) mentioned in Lawrie Miller's website that do about the same thing, and there's Heriot-Watt MBA entirely through exams.

Moreover, there's WGU that's DETC accredited offer about the same services as the Big 3, and there's ISIM (from Dr Bear's best 100 accredited institutions) allows individuals without a bachelors degree to enroll in their Masters programs.

However, like yourself, I also want to create an educational institution to benefit impovished students.
The project for my Grad Cert in Ecomm/Inet Business from JIU is to start a business/marketing plan for an online institution.

As all schools start small, i'm going to try to get this one off the ground after I complete this credential, I may further take a Grad Dip or a Masters in the future. Let's join ventures! Haha! (that's not a sarcastic "haha" by the way, it's a serious laugh of enthusiasm). If you wish, send me an email, i'll show you my plan once it's complete in about 6weeks when my courses end!
