How do we explain this? http://www.xu.edu/entrepreneurial_center/archer.htm The prestigious Xavier University is apparently hosting a PhD speaker with none other than St. Regis credentials. Comments? I must say I'm intrigued, and I'm not trying to "expose" this guy, but am interested in what the board has to say about people somehow getting by the gate into RA institutions as guest speakers with degrees from St. Regis and/or similar non-US accredited life experience institutions. Makes me wonder if: a. they just didn't check on the degree/background or b. they did and they don't really care or c. they did and they give the degree more legitimacy than I would expect from a traditional institution
You've neglected at least one option: 4) They didn't check and they didn't care. Perhaps they felt that this person would be a good speaker regarless of academic credentials. Jack
You're right. Upon closer examination, I'm guessing his academic credentials really have nothing to do with why he is successful, and being asked to present at these type of things. Still, it is interesting when we are warned that life experience degrees are nothing but "time bombs" to see someone doing well with one, but in their own business, despite all of that.
It stimulated Degreeinfo to make some unflattering remarks about the guy, didn't it? But more importantly, if he ever becomes controversial, his professional rivals or enemies could easily use it against him. It still might turn out to be a time bomb, but it simply hasn't gone off yet.
Correct. ....And, you've hit upon something I just can't figure out, which is why the guys with these type of degrees insist on posting them on their web sites as if no one will notice. The intriguing part for me is that it "seems" to be working if this guy is landing gigs at the entrepreneurial center at Xavier University. He's not the only one I've found out there. For example, there is a professor at DeVry with one of the San Moritz clique PhDs - one reason why I quickly crossed them off my list of possible institutions for completion of my MBA.... Again, I'm not into exposing people, but I find it amazing that despite the danger and risk of using degrees like this publically and professionally some people are getting away with it - even for a short time.
Ego. I firmly believe that 90%+ of these people know that their "degrees" are a sham, but they truly think that they deserve a degree because they're such smart people (just ask them). For now. What goes around, comes around, and fakes such as this guy will be exposed sooner or later. I'm sure that the saps who got ambushed on Good Morning America thought they'd never get caught. Bruce
