I am looking for a good Doctorate in Education by distance mode. Is Edith Cowan University a accreditated and resonably-ranked Australian university ? Is its EDD program well-accepted in Asia?

From what I`ve seen of their web site, Edith Cowan is definitely a well known Australian university. I really can't give you any advice on whether E.C.U. is recognized in Asia.
It wouldn't hurt to make some inquiries and find out whether their D.Ed. program is recognized in your country.
Another Australian university you may want to look at is Deakin. I just recently submitted my application to them for acceptance in their DL- PhD program in Social Science.
Best of luck in your search.

Thanks for your advice. What was the application process to Deakin PhD (social Science) program? And what is cost?
How will the program be supervised offshore? Do you hv to find a supervisor in yr country of residence before Deakin accept you?

    Regards

    Hi eddgms,
Yes, I've applied to Deakin's DL-PhD program in the social sciences. DL programs like Deakin's are done via teleconferencing. You are assigned a supervisory committee (unsually 2 or 3 professors with knowledge in your field of study). The supervisory committee will assist you with your proposal and first draft (usually done chapter by chapter).
The university will not allow DL students to have their work/examinations proctored by profs in other colleges.
When your dissertation has been accepted by your committee, you are expected to be present for an oral defense. This of course, is arranged in advance (a great excuse to visit the down under).
The cost of program will run you approximately $18,000 U.S. which does not include administrative fees, research materials, and your flight and accomodations when you visit the university for the oral defense.
This info may help you in your decision. Good luck.

I'm in the EdD program at ECU

I do hope that more foreigners apply to the EdD program at ECU. I love it there and my mentor is fabulous. I'm the only North American in my cohort and sometimes feel a little lonely. The program is very well supported. Probably the only part that I found irksome is that the early units focus exclusively on Western Australia. I did learn a lot about the Western Australia education system! The saving grace in this program is that your doctoral portfolio (what you do in place of a dissertation) is focused exclusively on your place of employment. The tuition is also very reasonable (in U.S. dollars).
