I am going to study for and take this test. Then, if for some reason I fail it (please, no!), I can take the CLEP general math again in six months.

Has anyone taken the DANTES Stats test? If so, what are your thoughts?

Lastly, should I fail this test; what is the length of time I must wait to retake? I know CLEP is six months, but not sure of DANTES.
    thanks!!!

    John,

Please make sure that your program will let you substitute Statistics for Algebra.

With that said, I took and got an 'A' in the DANTES Stats test a few months ago. I used the Schaum's Outline, along with some online resources to study for this test, but I wasn't happy with Schaum's for this subject.

Grab the sample questions from Excelsior's test, TESC's test, and DANTE's test to get a good overview of where you are at (I find that the DANTE's 10 questions just aren't enough to get a good read).

    Excellent ideas, Cory...

I notice that the TECEP Stats exam LOOKS even easier (i.e., more descriptive, less computational) than the DANTES version. Has anyone taken it? (for John: would Excelsior accept it for math requirement?)

PS another stats study site, courtesy TESC, is

    useful for teminiology and more

I just spoke with Excelsior and yes, they do accept this test. I have printed the course outline and will look at it, but on the surface, it looks pretty straightforward. In fact, it says that a calculator is not needed!

To my knowledge, the TECEP exams have become ridiculously expensive since the price increase last year as compared to DANTES or even ECE.

    EXPENSIVE...yes

Out of state rate for TECEPs are $200--pricey indeed compared to DANTES exams. But if the shoe fits and the ball is just around the corner, who can argue? Them's still LSU correspondence course prices.

    MY MISTAKE!!

    I'm rather off above.
It was Ohio Univ exams that are currently $200 (4 qtr credits)--
TECEP are $294 for 3 semester credits!
That's about five times more than DANTES.

    Sorry for the mis-information.

Does the University of Ohio offer credit by examinations? I've always thought they offered correspondence courses only.

Cory, did you need to use a calculator for the exam? Just wondering about how comprehensive the test is...?
Also, what background do you have in re: to math/stats? You make it sound as though it were easy!

YES, Cory: the Schaum's Outline Stats is a pretty thorough workout! On the one hand, it suggests a fairly high level of math competency; on the other, you say you weren't happy with the book....Does that unhappiness stem from preparation level? or simply taste or format? Or was the content somehow inappropriate?
