    Hi,
I got a 49 on my CLEP Math test. I know, I know....anyway, I now need to find a replacement. Any suggestions for an online course?
Excelsior requires that it not have arithmetic included in the coursework. Other than that, I am not sure, but I will have to get the OK from them before I take something.

I am looking at the Statistics exams from DANTES and ECE. Does anyone know which would be easier? I feel that I would be better off with Stats than Algebra, but would like your opinions. It has been so long since I learned algebra, I simply cannot remember it and I just passed an upper-division exam in Research Methods, so I thought Stats would be better.

Looking forward to your help! Thanks again!

    John,
FWIW I took stats and algebra online(both were required), for me stats was much easier I can't help you in the dantes area on stats but I can say this: I came close to passing the dantes algebra--within 3 lousy points, needless to say the online algebra class I forced too take kept the midnight burning!
    Best,

Buckwheat, from what school did you take the online classes?

Have you checked out the DL math courses offered by UC Berkeley Extension? http://explore.berkeley.edu/UCExt/subdiscipline.asp?value=7.3.&action=Internet

    John,
It was Limestone College, the class lasted 8 weeks. The three tests came from the work problems from the back of each chapter, so if you can handle everything in the book there will be no surprises! www.Limestone.edu

    Limestone

Is Limestone college regionally accredited? I can't find that information anywhere on its Web site. And if it is not accredited, could the online course taken there not be transferable?

    Donna,
Limestone is RA by SACS - the same folks who handle all the other colleges and universities in the southeastern United States. As to degree utility- it did gain me admission to several respected grad schools; Converse College & Gardner-Webb University-which are in this area.(If any potential MBA students are reading this I believe Gardner-Webb now has internet classes available.) Donna, I hope this link is what you are looking for!www.limestone.edu/Block/general.html

Thank you! I searched and searched for that information, and couldn't find it. I wish some of these college Web sites made their accreditation easier to find :).

    Another Possibility

    Hi John,

I hope I can score at least one point higher than you on the CLEP Math exam. :) Any advice you can offer me on what to emphasize in my studies? I'm a bit anxious to pass the CLEP, as it is my final requirment to meet in completing my Excelsior Bachelor's, and I currently carry a 4.0 GPA.

As to options for you - I'd recommend checking Chemetka Community College in Oregon. They offer several online Algebra and other Math courses, and their tuition is inexpensive.

    Good Luck!

    Regards,

    Tony

    Tony,
There was more algebra than I expected. Also, quite frankly, I simply did not study enough. With a very demanding work schedule and an 18 month old daughter; coupled with the holidays, well, you get the picture. Some of the other tests I have taken were approached haphazardly and I did well; this test was the exception to that rule as I am very bad at math!
Accounting, statistics as it relates to business; no problem. So, now I am going to study (yes, really!!) for the DANTES stats exam. On another post, some scores of military personnel were shown, and they did better in stats than algebra so that gives me some hope.

Good luck with your test. I am sure you will score much better than my 49!!!
