I wanted to ask my fellow learners for your help and assistance with dealing with Introductory Research Analysis otherwise known as "Statistics" in the SPSS format. As a new Ph.D. student, I want to find as much assistance and help as possible to learn this "awful" process. Does anyone have any assistance or help on succeeding in this neccesary Ph.D. subject. Thanks

    Try www.utexas.edu/cc/stat/tutorials
It's a free tutorial from the University of Texas. At the bottom of the page are 4 hyperlinks to SPSS related materials. Hope it helps.

If you're looking for an online resource, I'd recommend William Trochim's Research Methods Knowledge Base for basic research methods and introductory statistics. Although not specific to SPSS, it offers some good foundational materials which might prove useful. Gil Einstein and Ken Abernethy at Furman University have developed an SPSS Tutorial Web site that provides step-by-step procedures for basic statistical procedures (e.g., t-test, ANOVA, correlation, etc.).

If you're looking for printed information, you might consider SPSS for Windows Step by Step by Darren George & Paul Mallery or Using SPSS for Windows by Samuel B. Green, Theresa M. Akey, & Neil J. Salkind. The former is particularly helpful at understanding the mechanics of using SPSS to conduct various tests while the latter is notable because it provides a sample results section written in APA format for each of the analyses.

    Ed,

Here are several URLs that I found helpful for purposes of my doctoral research courses and dissertation related statistics.

The first link provides a number of movie files that demonstrate common statistical procedures using SPSS. The remaining links offer many good tutorials and handy references for learning SPSS and general approaches to statistical analysis. I'm sure that you will find much of the material very useful.
