Is ALU in Alabama accredited? http://www.libertyuniversity.edu/about/index.htm I know Liberty University (in VA) (www.liberty.edu) is accredited by SACS
Let's see: no info on faculty beyond names, no statement on size of library holdings, no searchable info on president of university, no mention of accreditation anywhere on the web site, name easily confused with another (legit) school as you astutely noticed. Manjunath, there is no Santa Claus.
Just the first couple of pages of a Google search reveals that despite calling itself "the private nontraditional research university in the USA", there weren't any scholarly or research oriented links of any kind. The thing claims to have a corporate headquarters in Fullerton California and appears on several LA area college listings sites. But somehow the BPPVE has no listing for it. It claims to run a branch in Alabama, but Google also turns up a former Montana operation in Billings and a former Sioux City South Dakota operation. Their representative apparently spoke at hearings against passage of the legislation that drove non-accredited schools out of SD. I don't know how South Dakota ever got the mistaken idea that American Liberty is not accredited, since it appears on Chief Swift Eagle's list at the International University Accrediting Association. My impression from this quick glance at Google is that somebody has gone to considerable effort to get this thing listed on as many university listing sites as possible, but that it has little reality beyond that. Not too swift.
Steady now! Uncle J., please don't pull a Rayfield on us now. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/2562109.stm
I have not even looked at the site and I am with you Janko. There web site is even libertyuniversity.edu as opposed to liberty.edu. Things that make you go hmmmmm, North
Not accredited. Taking a not-unusual tack of doing business in California without actually being approved to do so. The BPPVE remains toothless. I see from the Ph.D. in Nursing that 48 s.h. are required for the degree, including credits granted for the dissertation. And 36 of those can come from a master's. Normally 63 or more beyond the master's are required. Pictures depict people sitting around the stairs outside some academic buildings. I wonder who and where they really are? No faculty are listed, nor is any source for the legality of their degrees. At least no bogus accreditation is claimed. There are some administration names, but the links are just e-mail links; no bios. This isn't a university. It is a tuition collection agency.

The "President's" signature block is equally funny - perhaps he forgot to change the URL: American Liberty University reveals this: "file:///C:/Documents and Settings/tblake/My Documents/My Webs/libertyuniversity.com/">American Liberty University. Of course the dot com universities always make us go "hmmmmm". Steven King
