Just a note to inform anyone interested in PhD programs at TUI that they will have to purchase SPSS software. I have done some research and the base SPSS module costs almost $1,000. You must purchase the base module prior to adding any additional modules.

    Really?

What is your source of this information please?

I have been a student for approaching two years
at TUI, and this is news to me ... now in my 4th
Ph.D level course with NO mention of such.

Harijan - before you go off and spend $1,000, you might want to see if your profs will allow you to use SPSS's graduate pack:

"The SPSS Graduate Pack includes SPSS Base, SPSS RegressionTM and SPSS Advanced ModelsTM"

It is priced some 85% off the regular price for SPSS. I know several classes at NSU use this software and it is a good way to go - if your prof will buy into it.

    Regards - Andy

    Whoaaa!

Slow down....it is NOT required for all of the Ph.D. programs. Check out the site:

    Fees

It says: "**College of Health Sciences PhD students are required to purchase an SPSS grad package or SPSS student version software package."

Ph.D. Business or Ph.D. Educational Leadership students don't need the software according to this.

Thanks Andy and GBrown for the information. I am in a allied health profession. I apologize if I caused any nervousness, I was just trying to be helpful.

Just to clarify, the SPSS package is only required for Health Sciences Ph.D. students, because there are intensive statistical requirements for our research projects. Business Administration doctoral students need not worry about it.

Also, TUI students receive the SPSS package at a greatly reduced price, $199. It's not a big deal and Health Sciences doctoral students should be well aware of it before they enroll.

Actually, I purchased a copy of the SSPS Graduate Package on JourneyED.com for 188.98 (graduate student discount). Below is the URL; however, I don't know if it will copy correctly to this thread.

    http://www.journeyed.com/cgi-bin/sgin0101.exe?UID=2003010222081402&GEN0=&GEN1=&GEN2=&GEN3=&GEN4=&GEN5=&GEN6=&GEN7=&GEN8=&GEN9=index2.html&TRAN85=Y&T1=19801573&FNM=00&UREQA=2&UREQB=1&UREQC=3&UREQD=4

If not, just go to www.journeyEd.com and do a search for "SPSS grad". It should bring it up.

The SPSS Graduate Pack I have includes the SPSS Base, SPSS Regression and SPSS Advanced Statistics modules. I found it is complete and able to handle complex analysis including a full set of MANOVA and GLR procedures, along with a full range of non-linear modeling. Very comprehensive package.

    I hope this helps...

Only for Ph.D. students in Health Science and with your student ID you can purchase it for $199 only!

Not unforeseen cost because it is clearly stated under "Tuition and Fees" check it out:

    No big deal..

I have a copy of SPSS that I bought in my graduate program for around $100, but even at $200 it would be a bargain. I have been able to use it extensively for all my research!

$200 bucks for the software is not bad. The other issue is that when you consider that a PhD in Health Sciences is 20 credit hours shorter than Touro's other PhD programs (60cr) I would say a $200 investment is not bad.

To Steve, good luck with your PhD program. You are moving right along. IIRC you were or are military (or is that Steven).

Thanks, North! So far, so good.

Your memory serves you well. I was in the Army National Guard as an Intel Analyst, up until a few months ago, and I think Steven is still in the Army as a nurse. Touro's military tuition assistance program was a big push toward my choosing TUI.

You may want to look on Ebay for SPSS. I purchased my copy there for less than $70.

    Thanks for the info

As a current TUI learner, it is true that you have to purchase the SPSS material for Ph.D. Business courses. I appreciate the information to purchase through www.journeyed.com and will pass it on to my fellow learners. Thanks

    Re: Thanks for the info

    Ed,

You better check on that. I've finished my research series - never used SPSS. No requirement is even mentioned anywhere in the business program. Don't waste your hard earned money on something you don't necessarily need.

    SPSS

    GBrown:

I appreciate your help. I currently am taking BUS 600- Introductory Data Analysis and our instructor has stated we need to purchase SPSS as we move forward. He also stated it would be used when we get to dissertation time. Thats why I have been looking for the package.

    Ed,

Okey dokey. This must be a recent change - I took that course last Spring and it wasn't required. I used Trochim's site for most of my research. Excel will do almost any statistical calculation known to man - if you can figure it out. That may save you some $$.

    Cost of SPSS Software

I'm finishing the first course in the PHD program at Touro-BUS 600--and the SPSS software runs between $150 and 200. The grad pack is all you need and it doesn't even have to be the most up to date version.
