I know someone who wants to pursue a GED. Does anyone know of a forum like this one when my friend can gain insight and ask questions?

    Thanks,

One comment I have is that if this person is in their twenties then their best option might be to instead of going for a GED to just enroll in a community college and do a year or so of college work instead. That way when they do their resume or fill out a job application they can just say that they have a year of college.

I don't know of a forum like this one for GED studies but I think there's a reason for that. There just aren't that many options when it comes to a GED. Every state has its own test. Since the GED test is the same statewide, there's not much flexibility to it. You just go in and take the test. (The GED is a good test, in my option, and I wish every high school student would have to take it before graduation.)

As for GED test prep programs, there are some options. In my area the local school system offers a free test prep program for eligible adults. I was required to attend one of these evening sessions before I was allowed to take the GED. Other options include test prep books and some private test prep programs.

There are some correspondence programs that offer a high school diploma, instead of having to take the GED. Having a GED is more annoying than you might suspect. Many job applications, Federal resumes, government security clearances, and many other folks want to know if you got a GED instead of graduating high school. If I had to do it all over again, I would have found some kind of online or correspondence program to get a high school diploma instead of getting a GED.

One alternative to the GED is Texas Tech's program for K-12 studies : http://www.dce.ttu.edu/

Also a very good source of inexpensive college level courses.
