Hi All, It has been a long time since I posted anything, but have been lurking in the shadows reading I just finished the MSc in Tech. Mgmt portion of my dual TMAN/MBA program at UMUC (phew - now the hard part starts on Jan 6th 2003, first Cohort MBA class) I have a question for everyone. I have been in the IT field for over 14 years, I work as Director of IT for a Municipal Power company in SIlicon Valley (recently hired, new position after 9/11) and would like to concentrate my skills in the Security aspects of the IT field. I will be taking the CISSP mid Jan, I attended the SANS conference (my new employer paid for both trainings) and will be taking doing the GCIA (pretty intensive certification) over the next 5 months. My question is this : I am thinking I should have some sort of Grad Certificate in Security, more general, like the AMU program: http://www.apus.edu/AMU/Degrees/allcerts.asp?programID=383 OR should I look into to going to Lincoln Law school (nights) for a JD ? My undergrad is from Regents (BS CIS) and will (hopefully) have a MSc/MBA within a year from UMUC. I have 5 years of Coast Guard (as boarding crew member - counting fish) and 14 years of IT (in private industry) Is AMU worthwhile? Is there a better program (Certificate or ??) Should I not do a Certificate ? SHould I do a JD? I know everyone will have different opinions, but I would like to get more "data" before I make another $$$ commitment Thanks Jim
Golden Gate University offers both a graduate certificate and an M.S. in digital security. These are offered both on-line and in-person, not only at their Mission street home base but also at some remote Silicon Valley locations. http://cybercampus.ggu.edu/
Thanks for the reply. I had not considered Golden Gate before, and might now, but it covers a lot of the things I have already done in undergrad/CISSP work/SANS work/CCNP program, with the exception of the one Law class, which is something that sounds interesting. Any other ideas out there? I guess I have enough technical background, and need more of an overall security/criminal justice/law certificate/degree program - is that wrong? Jim
Jim, The AMU program might be exactly what you are looking for if your interest is homeland security. This link provides a good overview of AMU's homeland security programs: http://www.dtic.mil/ndia/2002training/sauter.pdf AMU also has an undergraduate Weapons of Mass Destruction Certificate Program, which was co-developed with the Department of Justice. http://www.apus.edu/AMU/cdp/021009WMDCert.pdf
You may want to look at the graduate Certificate in Security Management from Capitol College. NS 670 and NS 673 may not be what you're looking for if you'll already have your CISSP though.
