    John,

According to the Ten Speed Press website the 15th Edition is due to be released in January. Which cover did you choose to use, or is this a surprise?

No Russell, it is not a picture of John Wesley.

Russell: Which cover did you choose to use, or is this a surprise?

John: A surprise to me, at least. I have no idea. Mariah and I gave our opinioins -- lukewarm on one, negative on the other two -- and Ten Speed has obviously done something, but we don't know what.

Authors are sometimes the last to know. On "Not Your Mother's Cookbook," we spent three months on cover designs, back and forth, forth and back -- and then the publisher was having a meeting with Stanley Mouse on another matter entirely (he of Grateful Dead logos and posters) and invited him to do a cover, and so suddenly that was what happened. Better? Worse? What do I know. Whichever sells more books, I guess. Which brings up the matter of why publishers don't test different covers in different places; it would be so easy and probably informative, but it just isn't done.
