Congrats John! Now get out all your Harry Lauder records and have a good cry...seriously, it's clear that you put a lot of thought and investigation into this, and I hope QMUC proves a happy and productive venue for you.

    Ditto those congrat's, John...!

QMUC seems to be a unique quality masters educational opportunity! IT is time, indeed, to be "stoked."

(But think of it from their point of view: It's a chance for the repuation of their good product to be spread far and wide, too! You will be that representative.)

    Good luck!

John, in your application to QMUC, were you accepted into the program on the basis of your experience and current academics with CPD?. Normally as you have seen on this board the general condition for acceptance to a graduate program requires an undergrad degree together with a GMAT (but not all schools).

For the board I was wondering if your application or consideration into QMUC was the norm or would you have considered this a special case?

The fact that you spent considerable time searching for the right program and in going with QMUC, did you find the Brit approach to accepting someone in mid career such as yourself was a more cooperative and understanding approach compared to the USA, Australian or SA universities that you contacted, purely on the admissions criteria I am asking?

    Again, congrats from me also.

BTW, how did you eventually make out in handling the case of the club member incident last week?

Thanks everyone for your continued support and guidance!
Orson, Yes, I thought about that angle. I have to believe that I will be the first American student since the program just started and that it isn't available via dl yet. FYI, I am starting with the hospitality courses which both programs share and by the time I am finished (or gain exemptions) with those, they will have the rest available. As an 'Ambassador' of the program, I can spread the word via the club managers association and gain QMUC quite a few students. In fact, two friends of mine are interested already.

John Roberts, Yes, I think that my experience and certification helped a great deal as I gained acceptance rather quickly. I have communicated extensively with them and I think that the people involved personally handled my app.
I like the Brit approach. This, and most other UK programs I investigated are more work-based in the approach to learning and seem more flexible re: my impending (but not complete) BS degree. That is more suitable to my situation and my mentality so it seems to be the logical choice for me. Re: other nations' approaches, Australia (UniSA & George Brown), was great and I love the program, but the cost was $11K vs. $4.5K. I didn't look much at SA programs due to much talked-about confusion on this board-didn't want to be hassled with admin. problems (although I may go this route for my DBA), and lastly, the US. For this type of major, the cost was prohibitive. For a straight MBA (not exactly what I wanted), I could have done Amberton for example, or for a Master's degree, I would have gone with Fort Hays.

    Sorry for the length.
Re: our deceased Club Member. We conducted an investigation re: our efforts, procedures, training, etc. and found that everyone responded admirably. However, I am sending someone to Dallas to become an AED trainer so that we can keep up with our preparedness.

Oh, almost forgot. I have emailed the program coordinator re: exemptions and hope to hear back soon!
    thanks again, John

Inspired and intrigued I have applied as well to this program and am now awaiting response, but there is a severe time limit. The course starts in january next year and Miss Robbs, the coordinator is taking her well deserved break next week.

John could you tell me please which subjects you are taking.
i have commited myself to a very short time frame, hope to finish the 8 courses in 12 months. My first 2 courses are marketing and accounting. The subject I fear the most is accounting.

Anyway thanks for sharing the information with us (or just me) and good luck.

    :D

I hope to gain exemptions from some of the courses, then I will decide with which course to start. More than likely though, marketing will be first.
I have been accepted into the Golf & Country Club program so some of the courses are different.
Still waiting for the registry department to contact me. I am a bit concerned with the timeframe and I hope that we can get all the arrangements done before the start date.
    thanks, John

John & rdl 50, You may want to give them a personal phone call, might speed up your concerns if you are feeling the time pressure.

Email works most of the time, but not all of the time, and at times the rest of the world appears not to correspond as fast as email users in North America..as in SA, Australia and now the Brits.

John you said you had received word of acceptance..so this means your in, give that Robb person a call.(suggestion)

rdl50, if you look at the courses, there appears to be common core in all of the MBA's offered at QMUC, and this would lead onr to think the 'Business subject' would be the same across the board?

John, I will give them a call. BTW, I noticed the common thread amongst the courses. When I complete my MBA, I might even get another if they will let me just take one or two classes. Probably Hospitality, Human Resources or something else applicable to my field.

You are correct thatmost dlprograms are the same across the board. But the price and convenience of this dl program makes it worth the efforts that will be needed. I hope to make this up with pursuing a DBA or something like that from a univeristy who has a better reputation. Like IMD or Insead.

And of course with my current job it will be easy to combine: Study during the day and work at night, almost like a regular student.
