I would like to thank everyone for their support and advice during my undergrad experience at TESC!

    I am a TESC grad (B.A.) as of Nov. 15, 2002.

I am already applying to grad programs (B&M only*) and have taken the GRE.**

I need some further advice...are there any FREE online sources of help for writing personal statements, CVs and such? (I don't mean general writing help.)

    Has Anyone tried Essayedge.com ?

    Thanks for the help!

    * I am applying to B&M programs because I do not want to do a British or Australian research degree (the only ones available for my field, DL-wise. So please dont' reply with songs of praise for Union Institute, et al.)

** So I did well on the GRE... a respectable score...but let's here your oppinion...we all know 800/800 is a great score...but what is considered a good solid score? I looked at pages of GRE stats at their website but I am still curious about the concensus (if any) here.

Congratulations on your new degree! I think that there's something on resume writing, etc. on one of those about.com websites. Try using their search engine to find it. Otherwise I'd be a bit leary of relying too much on free advice you find on the internet (no, not a dig at degreeinfo). Besides, there's got to be a mountain of books on these subjects at the library.

    GRE...

What's a GOOD GRE score? depends upon the field, but 600s always look good--very good. In Education, and perhaps other fields, 550s are good for anything but elite schools.

I recall there is an Ohio State grad student in history, with his own book out on "Getting In: An Applicant's Guide to Graduate School!" who has been through the process--including getting rejected many times over. His web site: http://dave.burrell.net/guide/

He will also review your essay for a fee--it may well be worth it.
"I also have experience as a writing consultant and graduate-school essayist. My own graduate school essay was included in Mark Stewart's book, Perfect Personal Statements: Successful Application Essays from Students at America's Top Graduate and Professional Schools (Arco Press, 1996).

"Please email me if you're interested. We can talk about how many essays you'd like to have reviewed, how soon they need to be completed, and consulting fees."

Also useful beyond its intended audience is:
"Getting in: A Step-By-Step Plan for Gaining Admission to Graduate School in Psychology," published by the APA.

    Thanks Orson

That makes me feel a lot better (scored mid 600's on each.) I also appreciated the link...looks interesting.
