First of all I want to thank everybody who responded to my earlier thread "need urgent opinion for doing an online MBA". with their suggestions.

I just wanted to let the board know, that at present I have decided to proceed to enroll in Touro University International to do my MBA.

I paid my tuition yesterday (Dec 3rd 2002) for two courses which would be starting on Dec 9th 2002. I have not yet received any material from them yet (CD's etc). So I don't have a feedback on the material etc.

Unfortunately the transcript issue (which we beat to death in my earlier thread) still remains. I have to get the official transcript sent from my Indian University to them in order for Touro to mark my admission as complete. I have till the end of my MBA to get the transcripts sent to them (before I graduate).

Now that I have taken the dive into the unknown ??, further suggestions and advice are welcome from a student perspective from all those who are actually going through with their MBA at Touro or any other school.

Once again thanks to all for their help.

John Roberst - thanks for your wishes. As fas as estimated time goes, I am supposed to complete 48 credit hours (normally it is 40 but I have to take 2 pre req courses). So if I take 2 courses per session non-stop then I expect to finish in 15 to 18 months.

    Just one!

Completed ITM501 only with “A” in all modules (Case + SLP) ! My Bachelor is in Business field and I did not need to enroll for the preparatory courses! Currently enrolled for BUS508 and BUS509 … starts from 12/09/2002!

    Thanks

    Touro MBA

    Jarin,

Congratulations on pursuing your Touro MBA. Having completed the program earlier this year, I can tell you that you are in for a great experience.

The format is pretty simple: each course is divided into six modules, with each module requiring a Case Study, Session Long Project (SLP), and your participation in a threaded discussion. Most Case Studies are in the 3-5 page variety; Session Long Projects vary greatly; and the threaded discussion will prove to be entertaining, provocative, and stimulating. Sometimes you'll wonder how people have so much time to spend on threaded discussions in any forum. :D

Here is my advice - (which will make more sense once the CD's arrive...)

    1) Do not let your assignments pile up. You'll be given two weeks to complete a module. If you are doing the course justice, you'll spend a good bit of time reading journals and lecture material online. Most courses are supplemented by video of the professor summarizing course content. Early in the two-week period knock out all your background reading and then start outlining your case study. SLP's are a continuous project throughout the course and the threaded discussion is a no-brainer.

    2) Depending on your situation, only take two courses a semester. I am in the military and my tuition assistance paid for this program in its entirety - but to graduate with dual concentrations (information technology management and healthcare management), I was forced to take three courses one semester. That was a tremendous load.

If you would like further advice...feel free to ask...there are many Touro MBA's here.

    Kindly,
    Steven King

    Re: Touro MBA

Steven is quite right, there are more than a couple Touro MBA grads here -- even a couple with the same name! I'm sure any one of the Touro graduates on this board would be happy to answer questions any prospective students might have. (For those of you lurking on this board and interested in TUI.)

Let me take a minute to fully agree with Steven, try your very best to stay on track with your assignments. Consider every two-week deadline as if it were final and unchangable. That's the best way to ensure you don't get overwhelmed at the end of the session. Best of luck and, again, congratulations!

When school was hot and heavy, I didn't have the time to post. Now, with the end of the previous session, as well as the subject of this thread, I am compelled.

Steves are right, DO NOT GET BEHIND. I played hell this past session trying to get caught up, and my grade and work in one class suffered.

They are very accomodating at TUI, but you will only end up frustated.

Also, know that we have all been in your shoes. My trying to decide which program to choose, it drove me nuts. You have made a sound choice, and it seems that as the DL becomes more mainstream, TUI will be one of the major players.

Also, if you should need anything, feel free to let me know.

    Congrats and best wishes.

    thanks everyone

Thanks once again to everyone (the list is getting bigger) for giving me tips to cope up at Touro.

I received my materials yesterday (CD's etc for the two courses ETH501 and BUS508 which start on 12/09/2002).

I was hoping if you could tell me what kind of a time table or game plan did you all follow for taking two courses at a time ?. Did you finish one and then start the other or did you do them simultaneously ?. Both have the same date of compeltion of assignments etc.

Also, I have been previewing the ETH501 CD and wanted some initial pointers (as this is going to be my first case study for Module 01) as to how did you guys go about it ?. Is the material in the lecture (video as well as narrative) enough to write a 3-5 page case study (specific to module 01) pertaining to unilitarian and deontological ethics. I did do a search on the web but that does not help because I get ton's of articles (they are mostly philosophy related) and I feel I would be wasting a lot of time trying to go thru stuff I don't need. I just need a initial pointer or direction as to how did you guys go about doing this case study (in terms of tips, special key words for research, where you did the research etc). I am hoping doing this one exercise would give me the hang of things and I could use the techniques you recommend for future case studies. Otherwise I will end up surfing the net without knowing when is enough.

    thanks

    Re: thanks everyone

    Hello Jarin.

I did not take ethics @ TUI, although I will be taking it in my PhD Program. But, two the big philosophers that you may want to do a search on are John Stuart Mill (utilitarian), and Immanuel Kant (deontologist). This may lead to further searches that might help.

Regarding the material, I read everything that is mandatory, but only scan the optional material that appears to pertain to the case.

I try to do all my reading in the first part of the week for both classes. Over the first weekend, I try to get the cases done. This leaves the SLPs, which I try to do before Wednesfay of the last week, and I can participate in the threaded discussions on Thursday and Friday. Of course, external factors sometimes makes this timeline vary, but I try to stay with it.

    Jarin,

Do not hesitate to ask your professor or Graduate Assistant. Both are extremely responsive and helpful.

    Oh.. and Congratulations!! Excellent choice.
