Need advice. I have found the two programs that I will be applying in the fall. Arizona State University and Drexel. ASU is closer to CA, and I have a Professor that I conducted research with that graduated with his PhD from ASU. Drexel is further from CA, but again I have researched their curriculum very closely and they have a great reputation for student to faculty. These are both very highly regarded schools.

Here is the issue. I plan to only be on campus for the first year, which both programs have as a requirement. My husband is in CA, and I want to relocate for the minimum amount of time. My question is, do I mention this in my essay. I think it would be used against me, but I also want to be honest about my intentions. Since these schools gets hundreds of applicants, and only accept a handful, I thought I would only put my best foot forward, and not mention this until it was needed, since I am still within the program requirements.

    Any thoughts?

Kristie7 - If I were you, I would not mention that in your essay. Might act as a negative if you mention you are going to be in their school for part of the duration. On the other hand, I am not sure if there is going to be an interview process and if this comes up at that time "something like how do you expect to complete your course in residence if your family is in CA etc ?". You might want to prepare an answer for those knids of things but definately not mention it in your essay.

P.S : I know on one of my threads you did reply and mention that I like to take the easy way out but this is sincere advice. You are not lying, just hiding the truth.

    Hope this helps.

I hope you didn't take the comment personally. I just wanted to make sure that the "group" you will most likely be in will be effected by the school of choice.

If you are screening schools, but once in will give the work needed, great. I have just found (in my experience) that some people just go in for the piece of paper, which is hard for those wanting more.

Don't spill your guts for no good reason. Your timetable is not in conflict with the requirements and you are not lying or flouting those requirements by failing to mention it.
