What would an Administrator do?

    Friends,

What would an administrator see in a "customized" masters degree for teaching at a junior college?

My impression is that the customized degrees are choosy on courses, they never closely resemble the standard curricula that is expected to be "behind" the teacher being considered (in my case, still interested in an MA in English and Composition for teaching junior college). I suspect that when someone shows up with a customized degree it looks less valuable in a hiring situation because the administrator has to take a greater risk with a person who doesn't have the "standard" curriculum behind him/her. Is this true? Would you hire someone with a customized degree if you were an administrator?

When I look at the customized degrees I tend to salivate, thinking, "I can take a piece of this... and a piece of that..." Then it dawns on me that such a degree may be only for that purpose, to pursue intellectual interests and not for gaining a teaching position.

    What do you think?

    Many thanks,

    Chris
