I'm thinking about doing the HW-EBS MBA. I found that I've got exemptions from Accounting and QM. I've read Dotson's page on this subject and I'm still hanging back a bit. I was a little bit troubled the lack of acceptance of the degree as a teaching credential. But still it looks like a good program for a good test taker like myself.

Does anybody know whether RA schools have accepted HW MBA classes in transfer? I'm thinking this would be nice to know in case I found out that studying for tests in isolation totally sucks or heaven forbid, I'd flunk a test twice and have to go elsewhere.

The only other program I have on the table now is Amberton, which seems fine, but I guess the idea of spending so much time reading threads and researching on websites turns me off. But since I'm footing the bill I'm very price sensitive.

Any input on the acceptability of HW-EBS classes in transfer would be appreciated.

  2. Greetings, Friar. I would have thought that only Nottingham would have been acceptable to you?

I think the EBS MBA is of very high quality. But if you are interested in transferability of credits to a U.S. university then any foreign program is going to pose a challenge. The EBS courses have been evaluated at 4-6 semester-credits apiece by various credential evaluators (such as WES) but one major evaluator (ECE) has rated the courses as equivalent to zero semester-credits. I think you will find that a few U.S. schools will permit credit transfer, but many will not. Even if you can transfer credits, this is a very tough way to earn credits because the EBS program is well-known for the depth of the courses and difficult exams (primarily essay-based, no choice of questions -- so you need to learn all the material, no hints as to specific content of questions on a particular exam, etc.).

If you do well, but "flunk" two exams you may still be able to proceed but you will need to be granted a special dispensation. It does happen. Also, make sure you read on the EBS web site about the "compensatory" pass system.

If you want to evaluate an EBS course before jumping in, you may be able to buy a used text for about $25. I have seen these on ebay. Otherwise, post a request on the EBS Watercooler. (The used text will not allow you to write an exam to pass the course, but will allow you to assess the depth of the material.).

Thanks Gert. Good information. Yes I'm curious about the educational materials provided. I've seen a past economics test and it looked doable.

    HW-MBA

For what its worth, I had my credits transferred into Capella University for transferring into the PhD program.

Also, I applied and was accepted into the Nova Southeastern University DBA program on the strength of a WES evaluation of HW.

I have had nothing but strong acceptance--and would think EBS would be a far stronger institution than Amberton.

Interesting. I wonder if anyone has been able to land a part time position teaching at a community college on the strength of HW-EBS MBA?
