Got a note from UNIZUL's department of English saying internet access and a web cam are required for DL students in the U.S. I was surprised about the cam. Is this common? I might have to head over to Radio Shack and purchase the gadget. Roscoe
Interesting piece on Webcam's, I dont think that this is uncommon for DL programs? Your other post on trying to get into UWC, just curious, did you try to get into a program at UNIZUL? J.R(ic)
No mention of such a device was made during any of my contacts with UNIZUL thru Reuben and the psych and religion depts.
--------------------------------- Na, na, they're just spoofin ya Roscoe! You know, like the key to the midway? Just given the new kid something to worry about. I guess?
Who did you contact at the UNIZUL English dept? I have had extensive discussions with Dr. Hooper (and am planning to begin my MA there in Jan or so), and never has the subject of web cam come up... no prob, I have one, but it hasn't come up... So I am wondering with whom you talked? I might email her and ask... clint
Letter from UNIZUL Here's the letter I received from Mr. Klopper about doing doctorate in journalism/communications. Maybe I misunderstood him. BTW, Prof. Song has welcomed me into the Th.D. program at UNIZUL and he did not mention any need for a cam. The program I contacted Mr. Klopper about (Journalism/Communications) is the same one I considered at UWC. Thanks to all of you for your input. Roscoe *************** From: "Rembrandt Klopper" <[email protected]> Subject: RE: phd program Dear Roscoe, Depending on your academic background and how you are set up computer-wise (e.g. internet access with web cam) it should be possible for you to do the course from the USA. I at the moment have a student who lives in Japan. The framework for our postgraduate programme is communication science as a comprehensive discipline. Students do research and write theses on aspects of one of the following aspects of communication science: intrapersonal communication, interpersonal communication, public communication, mass communication, e-communication, cross-cultural communication, conflict transformation and crisis and disaster communication. If this set-up interests you, send me some information about your academic background and your present whereabouts. Correction on department Sorry. I said English department in the first post. Should have been more specific and said Communications. I apologize for this slip. Roscoe
I've had conversations with a couple of PhD programs where they state very clearly that a requirement for the program is that the student attend and make presentations at graduate seminars. It has been suggested that a webcam might allow DL students to meet this requirement. Also, it might be nice to actually see your supervisor now and then. Jack
Roscoe: Oh. I can see the requirement in communications making more sense than in some other fields. Of course, some departments at Unizul never answer their e-mail, so what on earth would they do with a web-cam??? Hau!
