After 25 years I have decided it is time to finish my degree. I need to take several Dantes and Clep exams (30 semester credits) to begin my Business curriculum at the local college. My question, besides Cracking the Clep, The Official DSST Prep Guide, reference materials and practice tests are there any other materials you have found helpful? Thank you in advance for your help.

  2. At the risk of sounding like a smartass (which I admittedly sometimes am, but a sincere smartass in this case), yes: Life seems to have been pretty good preparation. If you've been working during the last 20 years, you've probably acquired knowledge that'll translate to at least some of the tests without much more refinement.

Spend a few hours at the local community college-- during the day, when working adults are more likely to NOT be there. Sit in the cafeteria for a while.

Those 18-year-olds around you? Congratulations. Their performance in comparable college-level courses is, theoretically, what the standardized tests are "normed" against. If that doesn't make you feel 50% more confident from the word "go," no amount of test preparation will.

Check out Lawrie Miller's site. Good resources, even if you choose not to go with his particular regimen.

I was in the same situation, it seems. Two months ago, I starting taking CLEP, DANTES, and ECE exams (30) and only failed one course (math, no surprise for me as I am terrible at it!), most of these were taken with little or no study. Maybe a few nights review of the books mentioned or in the case of psych exams, I bought a used student textbook at the used bookstore. Other than the books you are already getting, get used books in areas you feel weak in (you will know this by taking the practice exams and getting at least 50% correct), and take the test. Just do it! Good luck!

    Likewise rcol...

Be sure you ise the upper right button "search" to narrow down your survey of pre-existing info.

I'd only add to use the Princeton Review AP Enlgish (2nd half) to very swiftly prep for the CLEP exam Anal. and Interp of Lit. Very very concise. (DON'T use REAs for this exam!!!--a waste of time and effort.)
