Does anyone know of a school that gives credit for the SSAT and/or the PRAXIS exams?

These tests are usually administered to test subject matter competency at the undergraduate level.

Don't bother calling Excelsior, TESC or COSC. I called all of them last summer and they all said they had made the decision not to give credit for these exams.

What I don't get is that the SSAT and/or Praxis are put out by ETS in order to test subject matter competency at the undergraduate level. They also make the subject GRE for this purpose. Why do the big 3 accept the GRE for credit and not the Praxis/SSAT??? Both would have the same effect, presumably, in CA.

Let me know if you understand and can answer either by directing me to a school that does give credit, or why no one does.

Is'nt the SSAT designed to evaluate high school level learning?

Likewise the GRE is designed to validate undergraduate learning for admission to a graduate program (so some schools will award UG credit for the GRE).

    Thanks Ian...

The answer to that is "no," the SSAT is used in CA to evaluate undergraduate level competency for entering a teaching credential program. You are thinking of the "SAT" not the "SSAT."

I'm totally aware that the GRE evaluates graduate level learning, so do the PRAXIS/SSAT exams. My question is past that. Why doesnt anyone offer credit for them?

  4. I think that most people will recognize the SSAT as the Secondary School Admission Test, for entry into private high schools.

I had to do a search to find that SSAT can also be the "Single Subject Assessment for Teaching," which appears to be a Californian aberration that is being phased out.

Perhaps some school in California would give credit for such an exam.
