Hi everyone. I need to take the following exams: Ethics, Human Resources Management, Statistics, and Organizational Behavior. I noticed that there are both DANTES and ECE exams for those subjects. I don't need any of them to be upper level credits so which exams do you recommend I take? Thanks!

If you're looking to save some money....

....taking the DANTES will save you about $100.00 a test. If you're looking to move more quickly, then pay the extra and take the ECE tests. You get your score right away and they show up at Excelsior within a day. The DANTES scoring takes longer, as I believe all are done with paper and pencil. I’m told it will take up to eight weeks to receive your score. I understand the DANTES should be a bit easier, as I’ve only taken one, and haven’t gotten my score back I’m sure if that’s the case. I think it’s more the subject matter than the test. I’ve taken four ECE tests, one CLEP, and one DANTES. I studied for the ECE tests (except for English Comp.), but took the DANTES and CLEP tests cold.

The advantage to ECE will be that it shows up as a class on your EC transcript. If I were headed towards an EC degree I would take as many EC tests as possible.

Maybe because it's a status report...

.... and not a transcript but mine lists them as "Excelsior College Examinations".

I took my one and only CLEP .....

....at Florida Keys C. C. a couple of week ago, October 24th while on vacation there. They showed up on the Excelsior web site on November 1st and my status reports were updated on November 4th.

The one DANTES exam that I took was reported pretty quickly - TESC had my score within a month. The AF base I took it at had a scan sheet reader, so the proctor was able to give me feedback immediately after I'd finished the exam. She couldn't give me an exact score, but she was able to tell me that I'd passed and that my score was in the top quartile. I thought that I'd have to wait a while to find out how I did, so I was pleasantly surprised.

I have taken the Ethics, Organizational Behavior and HR Management DANTES exams. I took the exams at an Air Force base and had a pass/fail result on the spot. Charter Oak State College received the exam results within 3 weeks.

I have also taken 2 ECE exams and have found the DANTES exams a little easier. That is just my opinion, maybe it was the subjects I tested on.

Update on times for DANTES scores...

...When I took the CLEP test at Florida Keys C. C. a couple of weeks ago (October 24th), I also took a DANTES test. Although I haven't received my test scores in the mail yet, I noticed that Excelsior shows they’ve received the transcript today from DANTES. Much quicker than I had expected. Now let's just hope I passed! :D
